The nose-horned viper (Vipera ammodytes (Linnaeus, 1758)) prays upon small mice such as the Yellow-necked field mouse (Apodemus flavicollis ((Melchior, 1834)). Within the last few years there have been several local reports of certain virus outbrakes. The certain virus is trasmited via rodent species. With the decline in snake number, the mice number increased to which we can adress the increase of virus infection. Thus snake populations can regulate the number of rodents and decrease the potential threat of virus spread with mice.

Cuculus canorus (Linnaeus, 1758.) is a forest bird speices that lives in Croatia. It is know for a „parasitic“ type of egg laying. Rather than making its own nests and laying its eggs there, the bird lays them in other birds nest. The eggs are similar to eggs of the owner of the nest, which can't tell them apart. The C. canorus eggs hatches first and the host bird starts feeding them. Aditionaly when the host bird is hunting for food, the C. canorus pushes out the host's original eggs so it will be the only one in the nest.

Ephialtes manifestator (Linnaeus, 1758) is a wasp species that lives in Croatia. They lay their eggs in tree bark where beetle larva lives. They use their specilasied sting (like a drill) to insert the egg with the beetle. The newly hatches wasp larva then eats the beetle larva to survive. The wasp can also lay eggs in catepillars, where the wasp larva eats the catepilars from the inside.

Apart from their bad reputation, the wasp have also a positive impact. They eat beetle species which eat agricultural products, thus regulating their number and preventing agricultural damage.

Proteus anguinus (Laurenti, 1768), or the "Olm" is a endemic and aquatic species in the Dinaric mountains . It is the only exclusively cave dwelling vertebrate species . It lives in clean underground waters (rivers and lakes) from 5 – 10 C. It usually lives in smaller groups and lives for more than 60 years, making it the amphibian with the longest lifespan. It can be found in groops under stones or in fissures. It feeds od other cave dwelling species, such as insect larva, molluscs and crustaceans, making it a top comsumer of the unterground (and water) habitat . The olm can also last without food for 96 months. The natural enemys are rare and they are mostly fish which enter the cave water systems.

(Source: Red book of amphibians and reptiles of Croatia 2015)

Primarily they are nocturnal but can sometimes be seen during the daytime in spring. During daytime the hare mostyl hides. The hare nests in small holes on the surface of the groun, rather than digging burrows. The hare is the natural prey of bird, canid and feline species.
