I didn't exactly know what i wanted to switch to, so I learned as much as I could. I knew that I wanted to work in an organization that helped people. I researched different organizations I thought I would like to work for and did informational interviews with people in jobs I thought I would like so that I could learn more. 2. It was hard for me to explain to people outside of theater how important a stage manager was and what skills I brought to the table. They can be small or big. And you never know what challenges are going to be around the corner. My fiance always encourages me to figure out how to handle my current challenge better so that I can level up like Mario and face the next challenge even better. For me, I try to do that by taking a step back and reminding myself of the bigger picture so that I can think outside of the box about how to solve it. But more and more we are making our voices heard and we are seeing a lot of emerging African American designers as well as people of color being brought into guide companies diversity efforts. For me, I'm a perfectionist which adds more stress to my work. I have a number of things I do to help me when i'm overwhelmed. 1. Take a deep breath in and deep breath out. Do this 5-10 times. There is proven science that focusing on your breathing for a minute or two really can calm you down a bit. 2. Give yourself a break from thinking about the problem so you can clear your head and look at it in a new way. 3. Look at the bigger picture. How does this challenge I'm facing effect my life, my schoolwork, my family? What's the worst that could happen? What's the best that could happen? How can you impact the outcome? Sometimes you can't and it's important to know that too and let go of worrying about something you can't control. 

Especially during this extra time of stress, understanding what you can control is important. Although the pressure to prove myself was great coming from both of these minority groups, I always relied on my perseverance and I was not ashamed to reach out to others for support when I needed it. I had a good team of people around me, which I built; my siblings (Mrs. Daniels-Charlemagne is my older sister), parents, teammates, mentors and friends all played a big role in why I kept pushing myself.
