"The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant shows how too much possessiveness can make you miserable. Mathilde really wanted to get rich, but that only made her life worse. We can ask if it was a good idea for Mathilde to lie to look rich. We should try to be content with what we have instead of always wanting more. It is unfortunate that Mathilde got into a bad situation because she wanted to look important. This story teaches us that wanting things just because they look good can make life difficult. Instead, we should be content with what we have and be grateful for it.

The theme of "The Necklace" centers on the fallout from materialism and conceit.
Madame Loisel's concern with appearances ultimately brings her down, despite the fact that her quest for wealth and rank initially looks harmless. It is then that she discovers the unpleasant reality about the value of material belongings. Despite Madame Loisel's aspirations for an opulent existence, her failure to see the value of what she already has leads to her constant discontent and, in the end, her downfall when she misplaces the loaned jewelry and has struggle for years to pay back the debt. The necklace represents the illusion of social standing, illustrating the complexity of human aspirations as Madame Loisel's chase of wealth ends in impoverishment, underscoring the age-old moral lesson that true pleasure is attainable despite one's desire for a sumptuous lifestyle serving as the main plot device.

In the story, Mathilde Loisel plays the role of the protagonist who seems to never be content with her life. Mathilde always asks for more from her husband. She symbolizes greed, discontentment, and pride. As the story goes on we see the negative things that Mathilda did and how it all backfired, which also cause d her downfall. This shows us the reality that being someone/something you're not or someone/something you don't deserve to be is never a good idea. The story also shows that someone's title or status does not define them as a person. Guy de Maupassant showed us how important it is to be honest to the people around you and yourself, because at the end of the day there's nobody in the world that knows you more than yourself.

"The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant presents the theme that appearances can be deceiving and the consequences of discontentment. First of all, it implies that chasing wealth and social status can end in failure. When Madame Loisel borrows a diamond necklace to fit in at a party and loses it, she falls into poverty as a result of her obsession with being wealthy. Second, it brings out the idea that contentment comes from inside and a sense of gratitude for what a person has. Only after years of struggle and misery brought on by her desire for luxury does Madame Loisel come to appreciate the worth of her humble life. The story also implies that being honest is important. As a result, Madame Loisel's suffering was useless because Madame Forestier's jewelry was fake. Overall, the story teaches us how crucial integrity and contentment are.

Madame Loisel wants to look rich, so she borrows a fancy necklace, but then she loses it and spends years paying for it. Then she finds out it's not even real. This shows that wanting fancy stuff can cause big problems. Some people think it's about being grateful for what you have and not wanting what others have. Others think it's about telling the truth, because Madame Loisel's lie about the necklace gets her into trouble. Finally, it teaches that going through tough times can make you appreciate what you've got.

"The Necklace" is all about the pretentiousness of Mathilde. It's not only a great source of moral lessons about contentment, but it also acts as a chronicle of the social disparity in France back in the late 19th century up to this day in most societies. Through the narration of how Mathilde’s hardships, it was also shown that greed and vanity is corrosive. When she had the opportunity to choose a necklace, she happily chose a diamond one with the intention of bragging to other people the luxuriouslife she didn't have. Right after she swam in ecstasy, she fell deep into depth and deceit along with her husband when they knew that the necklace they borrowed and replaced was only a paste. After reading the story, it can be summarized with one word, that being humility. It shows an important lesson and It is a reminder that we aren't built up by wealth alone. Wealth and material belongings are concepts that people view as more valuable, and characteristics like honesty and integrity are forsaken. Madame Loisel's inherent desire and her ambition to raise her social status is not necessarily wrong in a moral sense, but her execution in achieving this goal is what caused her doom in the story. Ambition is not wrong, but it is when we as people have too much of it that we disregard other things on our lives.

The themes found on the the short story The Necklace are greed, truth, sacrifice, reality and dellusion. Greed is the driving force that made the problem in the story. Mathildes greed for beauty and attention led Mathilde to spend the hard earned money of her husband to buy expensive clothes. She is not contemp at what her husband is giving her because of her dellusions of grandure. She imagined herself having all delicacies and luxuries but the reality is they are just middle class couple that could only afford the basic necessities in life. Another theme that contributed to the main problem is truth, Mathildes decision to lie to her friend about losing the necklace led the couple to buy an expensive necklace that they cant afford. They would spend the rest of their life into repaying the money they loaned to buy the necklace. Mathilde would see the reality of heavy housework and how hard his husband have been working this whole time. The last theme is change, the ten years she spent working changed her into a different person both physically and mentally.

The theme in “The Necklace” is how greed and vanity are corrosive. Mathilde and her husband live a comfortable life. They have a modest home, but she “felt herself born for every delicacy and luxury.” Mathilde is beautiful but detests her social status and wants more than she can provide. It could be seen from the story plot, which reflects the issue of life values. Mathilde and Mr. Loisel would not have been in debt for ten years if she had not misplaced it or asked to borrow it. Because Mathilde had to borrow the jewelry to appear wealthier, they faced adverse consequences. The moral lesson in "The Necklace” is that society should not criticize people based on their appearances because even though they may look wealthy, it might not be accurate in reality. It tells readers not to desire for material items but to appreciate what they already have.
