The Digestive System

Our digestive systems are crucial for many things our body needs to do. If we can't consume food and nutrients then our bodies will not be able to keep our entire body moving. The organs that make up the digestive system convert all the things we consume through the gastrointestinal tract (aka GI tract) and is dispersed throughout the body.

The Organs

Gastrointestinal tract

Stomach

Gallbladder

Pancreas

Large intestine

Small intestine

Liver

Esophagus

Mouth

Throat

Rectum

Anus

Appendix

Salivary glands

With other body systems

The digestive system realistically can go with any other body system due to it being the source of our fuel in our entire body. But the circulatory system is very closely related to the digestive system, the nutrients we will obtain from digestion practically go straight into the circulatory system so the nutrients can be absorbed almost right away. the obvious system that works closely with the digestive is the excretory system. It is how we get rid of all the unneeded nutrients and leftover food in our body, more specifically the stomach and intestines.

Compare and contrast w/ Frog

Overall frogs and humans have a similar digestive system. BUT frogs actually have two sets of teeth compared to the one set in humans. Also an obvious difference is the size and length of the organs (frogs are much smaller). Unlike us, Frogs do not have an appendix and their tongues are connected directly to the starting point of the mouth.

2 Medical Problems w/ system

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Hiatal hernia
