One of the main American traditions when celebrating the New Year, is watching the crystal ball drop in Times Square to kick off the new year. This has been a tradition in America since 1907. Many people gather here to celebrate as they party, enjoy music and watch fireworks in the sky. A big portion of Americans watch the crystal ball drop at home from their T.V.

Another main tradition, that also relates to the ball dropping, is the midnight countdown. Americans all around the world will countdown the last 10 seconds of the year, into 12 am or the new year. It's pretty frequent to see people cheer and even share a new years kiss as a way to celebrate. Many cities across the country shoot off fireworks to celebrate as well.
