The Caste System was made of roles for what people did. It was a lot like the social pyramid in other civilizations.

Brahmin - Religious people, teachers - High authority
Kshatriya
Vaishya
Sudra
Untouchable - Nobody cared about them and they had no chance of becoming a higher role because of what their family were in the past.

Every action affects your karma and will decide your next life due to reincarnation. If you have not been a good person you become an animal. There are millions of different gods, they are all part of Brahman. Each god has a different aspect. They believe in the sacred Brahman. Brahman exists in everything. Murtis is in sacred things and is an image of the gods and goddesses. Aarti is their way of praying, though more like a ceremony in a temple. What they do is wave a light around and sing to the gods.

When they die their ashes are put into rivers to represent that your life is flowing and that the cycle will just continue. All rivers are equally sacred in the eyes of the gods. 40 million people come to river Ganges to bathe their soul and be refreshed. This process is called a Kumbh Mela.
