Robotics-STEM program 8 am-4:30 pm
June 19th-22nd Monday-Thursday
Breakfast and lunch will be served. Registration opens on Monday and scholarship will be available. More information to follow concerning components of camp.

Monday April 17, 2017 Coach’s meeting
Meeting agenda to include;
a) Tryouts (scoring system like the FLL rubrics)
b) Robot kits
c) Meeting agendas
d)  Fundraising
e) Coaches meetings
 
Attendees: Jack, Shontisha, Kathleen, Patricia, Nicole, Derek
 
 Items discussed:
1.Teams will use padlet accounts to communicate with parents and team members. We will have one account for the RC Edwards robotics program as well as individual team accounts. Parents will receive links.
 
2. Pre-try out at coach’s camp using rubrics. Team building activities for kids. Jack and Ryan will get NXT robots and build for camp.
 
3. Check with Janet about doing car polls to RC Edwards for camp.
 
4. We are planning to have coaches camp at 3:30 pm-5:30 pm on May 16-Tuesday, 18-Thursday, 23-Tuesday & 25-Thursday.
 
6. Application for coach’s camp will be due back by May 3rd and homework for kids. Interested students need to see Ms. Patricia to pick up application and homework.
 
This camp will be for rising 6th graders through rising 8th graders. This camp is more of a meet and greet for students and coaches. Everyone is welcome to attend. This camp will be an introduction about First Lego League. We encourage you to take a look at https://www.firstinspires.org/ This will give you a great understanding about Lego robotics.

2. The second form the students need to take to 2 teachers and have them to fill out. All these forms need to be turned into the front office.
 
3. The third attachment is homework for the students. The second page are definitions we are asking the kids to write or type out and bring to the camp.

maybe use as jumping off point for STEM club, introduce summer camps, Design workshop, new FLL topic for this year

Have speakers during year- STEM, engineering, incorporate with robots

Need more funding, resources

Need EV3 brain again next year, but can use other components

Need to look for grants as well as sponsors

Need "explore" time with robots, to be hands on, how program, how build, make it do different tasks BEFORE season starts

Ideal- 1 device and 1 robot per 2 kids; WiFi signal that works

Coaches should take advantage of FLL Coaches Kick Off, Coaches calls, FLL newsletters
Also need to have regular Coaches Meetings for Edwards team coaches

There should be dedicated school employee who coordinates Robotics program (ideally, someone with STEM knowledge, experience)

Where Start? Funding, Parent Meeting
Thursday, March 30, 2017 (suggested time: 6-7 pm, hoping speaker is available at this time) - ROBOTICS PROGRAM MEETING
1)Speaker talks to kids in one room while 2)Michael/other coaches(?) talk to parents in 2nd room
Solicit interest, set expectations

Need sponsors, grants (additionally, from PTA, fundraiser, raising application/dues amount)

10 kits/devices ideal to be on par with other teams at competition

Also, different room would be more conducive for practices (something similar to room we had coach meeting in near Patricia's room by back door to buses).  Locker pit room did not lend itself to working on table, working on project, etc. especially if more than one team present.
