         <title>Book Jackets To Identify Genre</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The use of book jackets  to introduce or discuss genre is a really good idea. Have the students pair/share the book jackets noticing the text and illustrations to decide on a genre. The students will look at the back of the cover as well, the teaser blurb on the front inside flap, and from the author and illustrator bios on the back inside flap. Then the pair will share their decision on the genre with the class. The class will decide whether they agree or disagree.<br>Mary Shelton</div>]]></description>

Ken Zylla is a good artist for studying various images. You can browse Google Images for his work. The key is taking the time to really study the images and allow students to talk about the images. Image reading is a different type of reading, but it is still reading. It is important to teach students to look closely at pictures/images to see what the image is really trying to tell them.
