On August 9th, 2014, 18-year-old African-American boy Michael Brown was shot by police officer Darren Wilson. Brown’s parents, Michael Brown Sr. and Lezley McSpadden filed a lawsuit in 2015 on the city of Ferguson, MO, former police chief Tom Jackson, and the police officer to shoot Michael Brown, Darren Wilson. Although the city of Ferguson, Tom Jackson, and Darren Wilson denied the allegations the Brown family was giving, Judge E. Richard Webber ordered the settlement of 1.5 million dollars to the family. This is known to be one of the largest settlement that involves black victims killed by the police. Ferguson city’s attorney Apollo Carey said that the St. Louis County did not indict Wilson, and he even resigned for his job back in November of 2014. This is how and why the Brown family got their 1.5 million dollar settlement in Ferguson, Missouri.

It is important to get your get your news from a variety of sources so you could see a change the way you see the argument presented to you. This is important to the topic involved, the Michael Brown Ferguson Settlement. In the article posted by CBSNews on June 23rd, 2017, author Robert Cohen-Pool talks about the 1.5 million dollar settlement the Brown’s got. In this article, it says that, “The parents also argued that the death of their son deprived them of financial support through his future potential wages.” The CBSNews account of this event is different compared to the other two articles. The two articles never mentioned Michael Brown’s future potential wages. In the article published by TheLATimes on the same day, author Associated Press explains how the Brown’s sued the city of Ferguson, the police chief Tom Jackson, and the police officer that shot Michael Brown, Darren Wilson. In this article, it states that, “Brown's parents sued the city, former Police Chief Tom Jackson and Wilson in 2015, citing a police culture hostile to black residents and claiming Wilson used excessive force.” TheLATimes news article’s account to this event is different compared to the other two articles used. The articles said that the Brown family tried to sue the city, police chief and officer. This article says that the did sue the city, officer, and chief. In the third article displayed by ABCNews on the same day, authors Emily Shapiro and Will Gretsky shows the agreement on the 1.5 million dollar settlement. The article indicates that, “The judge ordered the settlement agreement sealed.” ABCNews article’s account on the situation is different compared to the other two articles chosen. This article say that the agreement was sealed. The two other articles never mentioned an agreement between the Brown’s settlement. This is why it is important to get your news from a variety of sources, because you could see a change in the argument presented.

The similarities in the three articles I’ve chosen for the Bias in the Media Project is that it is about Michael Brown’s family getting a 1.5 million dollars for their settlement in Ferguson, Missouri. Another similarity in the three articles for the Bias in the Media is that the Brown’s tried to sue the city of Ferguson, the police chief Tom Jackson, and police officer Darren Wilson. The third and final similarity for the three articles is that Darren Wilson resigned back to his police job. Those are the three similarities in the three articles I've chosen for the Bias in the Media Project.

One difference in the three articles is when Darren Wilson resigned back to his police. It is not confirmed when but it most likely in November of 2014. Another difference is when the Brown’s got their 1.5 million dollar settlement. Some sources said in June, others did not mention when. The final difference for the three articles is when Darren Wilson got fired. Articles say after the shooting, others said after the jury had a discussion about if this was a bias shooting. Those are the three differences in the three articles I've chosen for the Bias in the Media Project.
