Close proximity to London as well as where I'm currently staying, making it not too far away from home, and close to other larger towns meaning Farnham would have good connections. The town itself is quite small but there is a lot within reach and the campus contains a lot of good facilities, I think I would like I live there.

The Course is for the duration for 3 years, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3, each year will have a different focus. Essentially, what year 1 will be is focusing on the basics and learning about the core skills required within Creative Media, for example, you will be introduced to research techniques, how to edit a radio package, tell a factual story through moving image, and learn some photography skills, as well as developing your presence online, to get yourself out there. The second year has more of a focus on TV, as you'll be able to use the TV multi-camera studios to work on your practical skills, with the opportunity to specialise within a certain area of production, e.g. Directing. Year 3 will be centred around a Final Major Project of your choice, as well as a large research task in the form of a dissertation.

The course has a heavy focus on technical and practical work, with 7% of the course being practical and 25% being theory work. This is something that really appeals to me as practical work is what really makes me enjoy my college work at the moment, plus working with different types of equipment as well as working in a team with other people to produce content is something I've also really enjoyed, and could potentially tie-in to my future if I go to work in a practical part of media in the future, such as video or photo editing, which is something I've wanted to do for a while

The campus is in a prime location, in Dagenham, just east of the centre of London, it'll have plenty of good links to the capital and further east into neighbouring towns. The area around Dagenham is also quite a significant town, so housing in places other than the campus wouldn't be an issue, also due to it's close proximity to where I'm currently living, and where my family live, it's really a great location.

The specific emphasis of this course is on moving image, which has been something I've been interested in for a long time, and has become one of the my favourite if not my favourite, most enjoyable part of doing media at college and previously in secondary school. Like most other courses I'll be learning a lot of technical skills, especially with using cameras, lighting, as well as picking up some new editing skills, all three of these things are what I've wanted to work on for a while in my college course and this should prove very interesting for me. In terms of how the course is fun, it's a 2 year course split into 3 terms, much like my college course at the moment, a minimum of 35 hours study a week is required, including lectures, independent study, seminars, workshops, etc. The first year will be mainly focused on learning practical skills with cameras, lighting, etc. which will all be backed up by contextual studies in these areas. By the second year, students are supposed to have created a "personal filmmaking identity", which they will work on in the second year. This means I will most likely end up specialising in an area that suits me, which is a really good idea, as I'll be working to my strengths with every assignment and I'll be able to focus on what I enjoy the most. The deadline to apply for this course is the 24th March, as that was the deadline just passed for this year.

University Application Process

Any application made to a university in the UK should be made through UCAS, all that needs to be done is fill in a UCAS application at https://www.ucas.com/.

However, before this is done there are some things you must do first, these include (in order): Registering your details with UCAS, very simple, all you need is input it correctly. Next, the most important stage begins, which is choosing the course itself, using the UCAS search tools you can search through many different courses all across the country for both post and undergraduates, once you have a course that you enjoy, keep the UCAS code of that course, as it's needed in the application process. Next after finding the course is to find a University to do your course, a lot like the course, you can search for universities on the UCAS website. Then you must fill out the application form, which can be used to apply for 5 courses that you may enjoy, these will be your 5 choices, it could even be the same course just at different universities. All you have to do then is send the application and wait for a reply, all applications must be made by the deadlines, which can be found on the UCAS website.

The cost of most courses I researched start at around £9000 for the first year of the course, which I will most likely have to get a student loan for, as I'm not entirely sure we're in the position to spend that amount of money, considering I haven't expressed much interest in going to university yet. I feel like a student loan would be the smartest choice, as it will allow me to pay it back gradually when I'm in a position to do so.
