I have experienced many opportunities that others haven't like going on vacation. I have never had to deal with issues like food/ housing insecurity. When working with students I have to considered how not all families have the same access to resources. When families are not able to come to parent-teacher conferences or send their child in with a snack it important to have empathy in why that might be. Rather than putting judgement on the families, teachers can support them and their child by providing resources that would benefit them. Many students have different experiences and background knowledge that can be embraced in the classroom. When analyzing data, I must take into consideration if the student doesn't understand what is being assessed or they just don't understand the instructions. Memorizing math facts and vocabulary lists determined your success. I struggled greatly in school because of this. In my future classroom I will have a variety of ways for students to show what they know.
