Humans harm our water supplies by polluting it, as well as through the change in water distribution. Pollution includes littering and throwing trash/other debris into the water. Although many people do not realize it, pollution from inland will eventually reach the ocean due to many causes including but not limited to, runoff and wind. This can lead to contamination and intoxication for both us humans and other animals/organisms that rely on these water sources. The change in water distribution includes damming rivers and streams, as well as diverting water through channels for ease in our daily lives. Channeling/rerouting rivers affects ecosystems by introducing water into previously dry areas and removing it from others. But what does this mean? It means that these changes can cause an array of downsides, including perhaps the most important, that ALL organisms that previously relied on that particular water source must now relocate in order to survive.

However, a possible to this solution could be recycling and halting littering into our precious bodies of water, on top of simply conservation! To replenish our water supply, we can use desalination to provide clean freshwater by removing the salt in ocean water.
