I really like the idea of students learning from each other and helping each other along in their studies. It puts them in charge of their learning but also teaches them responsibility. With constructivism they have choices on how they want to complete their learning in the class as well. It is also a nice way to encourage creativity and self-motivation. As I have outlined in these next posts- you will see how myself and others have applied constructivism in ASL and interpreting courses.

I would want my students to put themselves in the shoes of the deaf people of that time period. What would you do if your native language was banned when it came to your education? They can choose from the following:
Wear earplugs for 6 hours and only communicate in Sign Language and gestures.
Go out to eat with a friend in another ASL class, and order your food and sign while you eat.
Go to a captioned movie showing in the theatre.
Go to an event put on by the local Deaf Center.
ETC.

After each group has become an expert- they will be divided into sub-learning groups where they will teach the members from other groups their topic of expertise. After each unit we complete I will have the students film themselves signing what they learned that unit.
