Lately, the differences between male and female speech in Japanese has declined, specifically relating to the ends of sentences. For example, it seems that it is not very popular to use わ、わよ、ぜ、 and ぞ at the end of sentences anymore. But there are still some phrases that would suprise people, such as if a girl said 「俺はらへった」 and if a boy said 「いやよ！」

It is popular to abbreviate words, especially at the end of sentences in Japanese. A lot of sentences in spoken conversation end with the んです form and words such as けど、から、and し。It seems that the rest of the sentence is usually implied by ending it in this form. For example, 私も忙しいし。。。 ends with し, and the rest of the sentence できません is implied.

In Japanese conversation, inverted sentences are common. Inverted sentences is when the reason comes after the situation. For example, in a normal sentence one would write 宿題があるので、今晩のパーティーには行けないんです。But in an inverted sentence, it would be 今晩のパーティーには行けないんです。宿題があるので。

The writing style that one uses in Japanese depends on what kind of thing they are writing and their intended audience. Writing a message to a friend would use a different style than writing a 論文 or 作文。For example, when writing to a friend, it is fine to use the word 面白い, but when writing a 論文, a more formal way to say 面白い is 興味ぶかい
