         <description><![CDATA[<div>_________________________________<strong><em>Militarism-</em></strong> WWI was mainly caused by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. Allies was one of the biggest reasons WWI started.<br><strong><em>Alliances-</em></strong> Prior to the war there were two alliances. One was the Triple Alliance. ... Since Serbia and Russia were very close friends and allies, Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary.<br><strong><em>Imperialism</em></strong><strong>-</strong> it provided both a cause and context for World War I. Imperialism is a system where a powerful nation controls and exploits one or more colonies.<br><strong><em>Nationalism- </em></strong>&nbsp;It did helped lead to WWI because it caused conflict. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated because of nationalism.</div>]]></description>

Expressions of militarism and policies reflecting it were clearly discernible in the Germany of that time<br><strong>2.)</strong>Another example is Sparta. Every birth that survived birth was sent to a train camp from seven till they were adults. While they were there they had whipping competitions to see who last longer. <br><strong>3.)</strong>Germany trying to build a much stronger navy to show its power. Germany's naval building programs scared and threatened England and so it tried to increase it's navy.</div>]]></description>

Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy - stood against the three nations of the Triple Entente - France, Russia, and Great Britain.<br><strong>2.)</strong>Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia in late July 1914. Russia had an <em>alliance</em> with Serbia stating they would come to each others aid if attacked, Russia then started to mobilize her armed forces to help Serbia. <br><strong>3.)</strong>Germany and Austria-Hungary made an <em>alliance</em> to protect themselves from Russia. The Austro-Serbian <em>Alliance</em> of 1881.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>_________________________________<br><strong>Imperialism: </strong><br><strong>1.) </strong>&nbsp;This imperialism caused friction between these countries as they often came into conflict over territories. These conflicts deepened the divide between countries such as Britain and Germany and strengthened alliances between other countries such as Britain, France, and Russia. <br><strong>2.) </strong>Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was to be the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Austro-Hungary, realizing they were stronger than Serbia.<br><strong>3.) </strong>the United States' annexing of the Hawaiian Islands in 1896 and Great Britain's colonization of South America in the early 1800s.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>_________________________________<br><strong>Nationalism:<br>1.)</strong>The waving of flags and passionate anthem singing.<br><strong>2.)</strong>that men from across the entire British Empire signed up in record numbers to go fight a war in Europe. While not all of them probably signed up because they felt particularly close to the British Empire, but a large core of the social elite from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa certainly felt an extremely close connection to England as the mother country.<br><strong>3.)</strong>The Berlin-Baghdad railway that was built in 1903 until prior to 1914, connecting Berlin and Baghdad, where the Germans wished to establish a port so as to expand trade. This railway would have threatened the British trade exports and imports, giving Germany.</div>]]></description>
