<title>Summary- My take away from Postcolonial themes and the how, what, when and where for how I apply and relate to it are never ending. My understand of the Postcolonial theme is simply just the difference between a tribe, community even a person from when they were not influence by outside ideologies, beliefs, ideas, etc. It is specific to something or someone and what their beliefs were pre encounter vs post encounter to the alien idea, thought, etc. I think it is very common and important today. The post-colonial theme can easily used to describe cause and effect or a simple before and action scenario. It can be used to explain and help us learn from history. </title>

<title>Reflection- Out of all the themes I would have to say my favorite and the one that really resonated with me was Oppression. Being recently transitioned from active duty to reservist, you can definitely say I went from one type of oppression to another. Being that the military is definitely an institution that does have its own rules and laws it is to be expected to feel some type of oppression. I just remember feeling many times like my voice was nothing because of my collar device. Being a reservist is worst! You&#39;re labeled by your active duty comrades as merely a stand in and your voice is even more drowned out. I love serving my country and don’t plan on stopping but this post colonial theme definitely struck a cord especially with my current lifestyle. My most recent experience in this is my first annual training with my unit and going somewhere with high expectations and standards and while I met them I felt like a no one being the only enlisted in a room full of officers running a particular program that I was supposed to be a subject matter expert. Now, although I felt on top of the world, I felt like the smallest person in the room. </title>

<title>Application- Sticking with the theme, Full Metal Jacket was saturated in post colonial themes. One that stood out like a sore thumb was otherness. This was profound in Private Pile, whom clearly did not fit into the platoon much less the Marine Corps. He is ostracized, shunned, and simply put thru hell because of his personality and mannerism. He is then severely oppressed by his drill instructor and fellow marines. This has a sever effect on him and pushes him to edge of murder of his drill instructor and then suicide. This theme couldn’t be more prevalent in todays society and world around us. The post colonial theme identity and todays theme of bullying go hand in hand. There are students, children, adults whom are different or socially awkward. Whatever the case, this person does not identify with societies norm and is made fun of it. People are taunted because they do not identify with a certain group, class, etc. </title>

<title>Application (2)- Another 21st century txt that has a post colonial theory that is one of my favorites is the movie The Town. The theme that stuck out very strongly was Identity. The two main characters played by Jeremy Renner and Ben Affleck, both struggle with their lifestyle and their expectations of each other and of themselves. While one, Jeremy Renner, embraces the life and lives by it, he literally doesn’t understand the others demise of it. On the other hand, there is the other who is looking for any and every way out of the life and time and time again is drug back into it. The conflict between the two characters completely plays a significant part in itself of the text. It makes the story completely relatable being that this is common. While it is common for one to always want to better themselves, they can typically point out that one person whom they loved but constantly held them back. The identity conflict each character goes through are both different but are both important. </title>
