the story of the game is a simple one at first, but the further along you progress the more complex it becomes. the character you play as is nameless, your generic run of the mill main character that moves house to an unknown town. the difference here is that the main character has bought a house in an abandoned, decrepit town— full of eerie whispers and the always faint smell of copper and dust...

the further in you get to the game, the more you unlock about the past of the town and what happened before you arrived.

the game is split into five chapters, each with at least one small cutscene from the midpoint and onwards.

the chapters are named after the antagonist's old friends, of which there are only a few pictures to be seen of them, which makes searching thoroughly a big part of the game.

there are only a few characters in order to keep true to the town’s abandoned feel. there are, however, a few dead bodies strewn across the game that can in fact be searched for additional clues about either the monster you’ve seen or what happened to the village.

the main character has a few customisation options, but the base character is an average height, black haired character. gender is left unmentioned in order to be inclusive. 

the main antagonist is a being once human. with both arms no longer attached to the body, a mouth growing across the side of the abdomen and multiple eyes growing across the expanse of the shoulders and head. the “tail” of the creature is blackened up to the hips, constantly crumbling and decaying. it’s body produces the necessary cells needed to rebuild the legs, but it decays at just a second too quickly for the mass production to make a difference. the eyes are the byproduct of this mass production, as the body urges to use the extra cells in some way- hence creating extra eyes.

there isn’t a health bar due to the lack of combat, which forces the player to run or distract rather than advancing to fight. along the bottom left shows all the items you have collected, the list can be extended and collapsed with the arrow. a book icon in the corner can be clicked to show the notes and clues that have been collected throughout the game. 

the character’s icon is in the top left corner, with the blue sprint bar curved around it. the longer the sprint button is held, the more it drains. when the bar has emptied, there is a delay of 2 seconds before it begins to fill up again. 

next to the player icon is the chosen name for the player and underneath that displays the chapter the player is on.

a music toggle and setting button sit in the top right, which is simple enough to understand.

on the bottom half of the screen, along the right side is another arrow, which brings up the objective box. the objective box’ background is slightly transparent, so that the game can still be seen through it. 

the game has fixed cameras, therefore reading notes are stationary boxes that can be clicked off of rather than having a camera zoom into the note over the character’s shoulder

music is not a huge part of the game, but will be used throughout. simple bass and synth at most, cutscenes that include the creature will have the addition of chimes. 

apart from that, the music will be very minimal, as will sound effects. 

effects will be more prominent than music (which can be changed in the settings, which changes the experience.) but will be fairly even. the main sound effects will be the characters footsteps on dirt and cobblestone, flipping through pages when a note is picked up, and the clink of two glasses when an item is obtained.
