And for the men, we see them with brown hair and brown skin. 

We also see you as people who like animals like elephants. 

In France we think that you make offerings, that you listen to oriental music. We also think all Indians are Buddhists. 

We imagine India with a lot of mountains and temples. 

And finally, we believe that you are very respectful with everyone, but we don't see you doing sports ! 

 

Well, are this Indian stereotypes true ?

A lot of people are poor. Big cities overpopulated. 

Secondly Indian people are really smart because they speaks two languages (Indian and English) and they are so good in Mathematics. 

Moreover, French people find the Indian food really spicy. Do you put some spices in all your food ?  

Theremore, for us all Indian Women are only dressed with a long colorful dress called « saris ». And in our opinion the skin of Indians is orange.  

In India the air is very polluted because of the factories and the large numbers of cars.

We think that you’re kind and hospitable. 

Your parents are said to be very strict. 

Finally we think that all Indians are Hindu or Buddhist and you are doing a lot of Yoga and say « Namaste » to say Hi ! 

 

Indian dishes are very good like biryani rice or chicken curry, however Indian street food seems not hygienic to us as we watch some reports and videos about it.

Indian culture looks very different from our culture. For example  you are all dressing with a headscarf and worshiping cows. On the other hand, the cliché that comes to my mind every time I am told about Indians is the Indian caste system, of which I do not see the usefulness. Why not live together all equal? What do you think about that?  

When I hear the word Indian I keep thinking of Buddhism. When we watch films in which Indians appear they are often represented as very great practitioners of Buddhism. This also agrees with their clothing, they are often dressed with long dresses and have a red dot in the middle of the forehead

Unhygienic street food.

Indeed street food sellers usually don't wear gloves while preparing the food & money is exchanged with the same hands. Though this just adds to the authencity of Indian food. Apart from being cheap, the food gives the restaurant a run for their money with their tastes. The spread of awareness has prevented the visits by many, though no one can resist the occasional cravings. Vendors have been following certain practices that improves the quality of the food but there's still a long way to go.

India a very diverse country. So casteism goes hand in hand though it mostly prevails in the rural parts of India but as for us as students, we believe in equality & living in harmony & we don't encourage discrimination. Some of the commonly practiced religions are Jainism Sikhism, Hinduism. And as for Buddhism, it's amongst an ocean full of religions, it infact only makes up 0.7% of the Indian population. In some religions it is mandidate to wear a headscarf or a veil but it's mainly confined on the belief on of the people. The younger generations prefer not to wear it, still some religious places keep it as a necessity.

Getting out of trouble is something Indians are really good at. They find a way in everything. India is a home to a to than a million personalities & understanding Indians is an experience in itself. You need to be here to experience or properly take advantage of it

Hello our french friends. We are delighted by your questions and would love to answer them! Although some of them might be too stereotypical.

Tatsat: Your first question is that we wear a lot of traditional clothes. so, yes we do wear a lot of traditional clothes as we love to dress up to our occasions. Your next question was that is India very hot and my answer is yes, India is very hot because we are very close to the equator, but we do get chill during the winter.

Vishwaraj: Your next question posed was we practice a lot of yoga. We believe that practicing yoga keeps our physical and mental health up-to-date and that is why we can focus on our daily life. Also, our saints have been recommending yoga for thousands of years. The next question was are cows sacred in our country. According to our scriptures, cows are very sacred and are considered the supreme mother. We do not perform cow sacrifice.

Palash: Your first question was that do we travel a lot by scooters. Yes we do travel a lot by scooters as they save time and we can smoothly move through the traffic. Your next question was that do we eat a lot of spices. So, yes we do eat a lot of spices as it is an important part of our diet. India is one of the largest manufacturers of spice.

Kairav: Your question was that is India bad at Soccer and Football. So no contrary to the popular belief some of us are very good at football and if you check the top scoring leaderboard in Football you will see that our Captain Sunil Chhetri is third just below Messi and Ronaldo. That is a feat indeed. In basketball, there are many tall people who can easily play it. Although we do not take part in inertnational championships.the second question was that we do not use cutlery and we eat by hands. So, no we are very civilized and we do use cutlery but some foods like idli, dosa and biryani require eating by hands because they just taste awesome that way.
