'Following the chroniclers, Eliwsseeff, his modern biographer, had seen Nur ad-Din's career as guided by zeal for the jihad, in an apparently smooth progression from the imposition of internal justice, order and religious orthodoxy on Syria to the conquest of the infidel - internal jihad, in other words, followed by the outward extension of the ideal.'

The source's interpretation of Nur al-Din is that he focused more on the internal progression of Jihad. For instance: with education facilities for Sunni Islam. thus, through the internal progression of Jihad, Nur al-Din was able to not only conquer the lands in Syria but also unite them as one

Summary:Ed Nur-al-din was religiously motivated, he lead his campaign to the service of jihad. It is recognized that Nur -al-din went to great lengths fighting his Muslim brothers to unify the Muslim world in order to more effectively fight the West. Eliwsseff believes that the unification of the Muslim front was equally as important to Jihad as the extension of Islam towards the west, he also recognizes that this is an idea that was very important to Nur-al-Din as well.

Summary: Nur al-din was committed o an essence of anti Frankish jihad which was built up from the imposition of external justice and order, realizing that a religious zeal was needed to hold the level of progression against the franks.

The source does not comment on how he raided Tripoli and the Galilee along with attacking Kerak without a seemingly decent reason. his final years Nur al-Din did not culminate to his final goal: Jerusalem. this shows that he was as religiously devote as he claimed to be - similar to his father before him.
