The Gilded Age was a time when not everything was as beautiful as it appeared. The "Gilded Age" was a phrase by Mark Twain, author of 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'. The Gilded Age had to do with industrialization. This includes the railroad industry, inventions, such as typewriters and factory working conditions. It is interesting to me to learn about all of the strikes that occurred to end child labor, long work hours and not enough pay.

The Progressive Era was a time when the government was focused on domestic issues rather than foreign policy. Domestic issues included jobs, fair treatment, trusts, safety issues, conservation, consumer protections, women's rights, etc. The goal during this time period was overall to make the government more honest with citizens and to decrease the role of special interest groups within the government. I find it interesting to learn about how Teddy Roosevelt played a huge role during this time period.

Woodrow Wilson was the president of the United States when World War 1 was declared in 1917. Wilson was a democratic president who was considered an idealist. He was committed to "peace without victory" and some said that "he kept us out of war". Getting away from the president, in US History, we just began discussing World War 1 and it is so cool to learn about all of the new technology used in the war. For example, tanks, submarines, airplanes, etc.
