         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dear students, </div><div><br></div><div>Unfortunately, I will be out longer than expected due to an unexpected surgery that I had. Please e-mail me with any questions or post comments on Google Classroom under the Substitute Plans so that I can answer you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need me. I will miss you all until I see you next! Take care of our class pets! The supplies are on the counter behind my desk in a plastic bag. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Checklist for this week:</strong></div><div><br></div><div>*I will be checking your drafts as much as I can. The due date for “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” Essay will be this Friday, November 15th. Continue working on it and I will make comments on your work tomorrow, and I will finish the last paragraph, so that you can see my completed essay in addition to the checklist you have for each paragraph.</div><div> </div><div>*The CommonLit assignment for “The Monkey’s Paw” will also be due Friday, November 15th, but you may, of course, turn it in ahead of time. </div><div><br></div><div>*There will be a place for the discussion questions for “The Monkey’s Paw.” Look under “classwork” instead of “stream.” You may work on them as a group and upload the Google Doc questions and answers on the same document (copy and paste from below), but all group members should have their name on the document to receive credit. Answers should be restated and in complete sentences. The final editing checklist is to be completed as a Google Form and submitted you will find this on Google Classroom. </div><div><br></div><div>*After completing the final editing checklist for your essay, begin the new assignment that was posted yesterday 11/13/19 about creating one of the following new endings for “The Monkey’s Paw.” There is a location to upload this on Google Classroom</div><div><br></div><div>*The last assignment for “The Monkey’s Paw” will be making New Rules! </div><div><br></div><div><strong>NEW ASSIGNMENT #1: ALTERNATE ENDING TO “THE MONKEY’S PAW</strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong><br>Background: “The Monkey’s Paw” illustrates that no good can come from testing fate. The conclusion of this story is open to individual interpretation. Students will continue the story from the point of the door opening.  The continuation will serve as a new conclusion to the story and should be written in the same tone of “The Monkey’s Paw”. Students will determine what the third wish is and write a new conclusion to the story. Students should use descriptive language in the new conclusion.      </strong></div><div><strong><br>Directions: Create an alternate ending to the story.
