*Continue working on “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” essay on Google Classroom, I will continue to provide edits when I come back tomorrow. Use the checklist you were given last week. If you lost your copy, please ask Mrs. Perazzone for an additional one or look under the Turkey on my stool for additional copies.

*Continue reading “The Monkey’s Paw” with any peers of your selection. Mark the page that you leave off on and begin answering the discussion questions in your notebook or on a Google Doc.

*I will be checking your drafts as much as I can. The due date for “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” Essay will be this Friday, November 15th. Continue working on it and I will make comments on your work tomorrow, and I will finish the last paragraph, so that you can see my completed essay in addition to the checklist you have for each paragraph.
 
*The CommonLit assignment for “The Monkey’s Paw” will also be due Friday, November 15th, but you may, of course, turn it in ahead of time. 

*There will be a place for the discussion questions for “The Monkey’s Paw.” Look under “classwork” instead of “stream.” You may work on them as a group and upload the Google Doc questions and answers on the same document (copy and paste from below), but all group members should have their name on the document to receive credit. Answers should be restated and in complete sentences. These will be due for the group on Thursday, November 14th.

NEW ASSIGNMENT #1: ALTERNATE ENDING TO “THE MONKEY’S PAW


Background: “The Monkey’s Paw” illustrates that no good can come from testing fate. The conclusion of this story is open to individual interpretation. Students will continue the story from the point of the door opening.  The continuation will serve as a new conclusion to the story and should be written in the same tone of “The Monkey’s Paw”. Students will determine what the third wish is and write a new conclusion to the story. Students should use descriptive language in the new conclusion.      

Directions: Create an alternate ending to the story. In order to change the ending of the story, please make sure that you change Mr. White’s last wish or keep his last wish the same, yet make the results at the end play out differently.

Directions: Individually or with partners, create a Google Slides presentation stating the new rules (list them and explain them) a person needs to follow in order to wish upon the talisman, the monkey’s paw. Make sure that your rules are specific and clear to your audience. In addition to creating at least seven rules, please be creative in making your own version of the creepy monkey paw (actually make one) so that you can present your rules and paw creation together.
