While Helga was growing up she kept a diary, much like Anne Frank. Helga's journal entries take place from when she was the age of 10 to 14. Her and her parents were sent to Terezin and then deported to Auschwitz from there. Her entries record her day to day life and experiences in the concentration camp. When she was transferred to Auschwitz she left her pictures with her uncle during the time which her and her mom stayed at different concentration camps. When she was finally freed by the U.S Army she was able to retrieve her drawings as well as her entries and continue to make art.

Helga Weiss was an eleven year old school girl who lived in Prague when the Nazis first invaded her hometown. Over the next few years she kept a diary about her time in a concentration camp and the brutal things that happened. Helga was also an artist and drew everyday pictures of what was happened inside the camps by the timed she was freed she had drawn over 100 different pictures. Link

In 1944, while on a station platform headed for Auschwitz Helga and her mother lead a Nazi man into believing she was old enough to work. The Nazi man was Joseph Mengele, he was known for performing experiments on prisoners, selecting people to go to the gas chambers, and was a doctor who controlled the gas. Helga lied about her age so she would be sent to a forced labor barrack instead of the gas chambers. Helga's act of resistance lead to her survival of the Holocaust.
