Memory Moment

On pages 124-126 there is an important signpost that I can connect to something in my life. "I heard so many horror stories about Meyer that by the time I actually met the guy, I was in for a surprise. We had a shopping plaza in town anchored by a Stop and Shop grocery store. In 1972, when I'd been on the force a couple of years, the stores there started having problems with young punks gathering in large groups of vehichals in th parking lot...About an hour later Meyer pulled into the lot in one of his large garbage trucks. And right behind him was the hot rod. Obviously, this kid was someone Meyer knew. I approached the car and asked the kid for his license and registration. 'What for?' He huffed. 'For the purpose of issuing a citation,' I told him. 'What for? What did I do?' The kid asked...'What'd you say?' I asked him. Ray sniffed the air close to my face. 'I said I smell smoke.' He grinned at me, deep lines cutting into his sharp face. 'You're right,' I told him, pretending to sniff. 'Kind of like the candles at somebody's funeral, right.' Two can play at that game. Ray looked startled-he wasn't used to anyone standing up to him. Before he could say anything, I added, 'So, Ray, if you're planning to do some shopping here tonight, no problem. But if you're not a customer, you're gonna need to move out. 'I climbed down from the truck and stood there looking at him. He stared back at me for a few moments before slamming his truck into gear and roaring out of the lot at top speed, his nephew following behind him." This signpost shows when Meyer and John first met eachother and both of them realized that they didn't like eachother. If John never gave Meyer's nephew a ticket or if Meyeer would mind hi own business there would be no story because Busby would have never been shot. If he was never shot there would be no eight foot fence in the yard, all the police men in the house and outside, no frequent trips to the hospital, and no stay guard dog. Lastly, the town of Falmouth would not be spending so much money on the investigation or the protection to the Busby house. This relates to one of my memory's involving my grandfather. When my grandfather fell down the stars and broke his hip, he was in a hospital and nursing home a long time. So, his altimerze got worse. It got so bad he forgot my name and he died within the year. This relates to the memory moment because both were in one place a long time, and when Busby gave Meyer's nephew the ticket it was like my grandfathers altimerze getting worse. When Buby was shot it was like my grandfather dieing.

In Cylin and John Busby's book, The Year We Disappeared, is full of again and agains. One again and again I noticed while I was reading this book was John making frequent trips to the hospital for his face. This reminds me of my mom because she is always driving my sister and I back and forth from either
store to store or baseball field to baseball field. Therefore, John's frequent trips to the hospital reminds me of my mom going out of her way sometimes to drive my sister and I somewhere.

The non fiction book, The Year We Disappeared, has many themes but the main theme is that miracles are possble. I say this because John beat the odds when he was shot, and Gabrielle Giffords from the article also miracuasly survived after being shot in the head.
http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/10/how-did-gabrielle-giffords-survive-being-shot-in-the-head/?iid=sr-link2
