"We are currently using Junior Jotter and we mostly use it outside of the classroom. So as soon as I reach home, I go on the site to see what activity my teacher wants me to complete with my parents."

"I can send my teacher messages to help me understand a topic or an activity and I can communicate with my other classmates to share what we know about the activity."

"The learning system allows us to play educational games and gain points which we really love to do!"

Then they remembered a PPT they'd made of their drawings to show their parents on the IWB and that became their new favourite.

For these young children, technology is so much a part of their everyday life that when they get to school they'll be astonished if it isn't fully integrated into their learning day!

It is my own child at age 10months old (dummy in mouth, not yet walking) but successfully working the apps on my iPhone. Regardless of age, technology is appealing, engaging and IF used correctly, wonderful!

Q2.    My teacher has a class website that I can access outside of school and my parents can see what we are doing in class. My mom is a teacher and so I learn to be creative with the technology at home like making my own powtoon video. At home I have more time to use the computer and I can go to any site I want that my parents approve. At school the teacher chooses the site.

However, outside the school use the computer or tablet to play with my friends through the internet, watch movies or listen to music.

At home:

When I learnt about archeologists at school it was nice to play the archeological games at home with you and also the video of the neolitic men. They really looked like us. Why in England I had the computers at school and here I don't???"

boy(5): "I like playing on the I-pad and watching the videos E. and I take when we go on trips, or when we sing together and re-watch it. I like taking the funny faces pictures.

My boy really enjoys the colourful spelling games I downloaded for him. It was the only way he enjoyed when he approached letters and reading. He was not a big fun of "sitting down and looking at books" -unlike his sister who could read basic words at the age of 3 and half. I saw the motivation rocketing up when he played with letters onthe I-pad! They both love interactive games: looking after a character etc. and love using the tool watching themselves performing!

2. At home we can watch whatever we want online, songs, videos but at school we need permission from our teacher to watch the videos we want.

A majority said they felt safer using technology at school because when something happened (either a problem with the technology or finding inappropriate content, or not being sure how to do something in a program or app ) they felt they got more support at school and felt reassured that there was an adult present who they could turn to, alternatively a few children said that is why they proffered using technology at home because they could look at sites and games they knew they shouldn't look at!

Some of the less confident children said they preferred to be at home because they could use sites and programs for younger children without anyone knowing or could go on girl specific or boy specific apps (mostly this was the girls who liked dressing up and make up sites or apps but some of the boys liked survival or army activities or car games that they said the girls wouldn't like. interestingly some of the children asked others of the opposite sex where to find these games and sites for their little brothers or sisters. Much of the time at school they felt was spent on research, educational games like Maths or spelling and book creation whereas at home the games were more for entertainment "but sometimes there's some learning that the game maker sneaks in" and they spent time communicating with friends on Skype, FaceTime etc. many children admitted accessing sites they were not old enough to be on at home and a number had downloaded games that were too old for them. A surprising , and concerning, number downloaded items that were not suitable having first asked for permission to download something else to get the parents to type in the password. An advantage of using technology at home was that they could work or play for longer whereas at school they only have a limited time because of sharing equipment or just because class finishes and they move onto another subject. Many of the children had an iPad or tablet of their own and /or a laptop and often played with them in their bedrooms rather than in a family room.

In school, we don't ever use the computers, a few years ago there was a teacher who taught us to play games on the computer, but since she left we don't use it anymore.

Question 1

We have slow internet at school and sometimes we have problems to log in. Through the VLE our teacher informs us what homework we have. She also gives us links to internet games and information for social studies.We use ICT in school for learning

Outside school we have mobiles and tablets connected to the internet which are very convenient. The technology outside the school is much better to the one at school. Tablets are good for children as they have apps and games on them. At home I use ICT for entertainment and play. At school we use technology for information and for games.

I find that children love computers and technology. When I did a survey of what all my pupils did at home. I found that children as young as 4 had their own iPads at home and a mobile phone. I realise not all children have those resources because the children in my school mostly come from privilege backgrounds as this is a private school. But, parents are pressured (from all backgrounds) to give their children the latest gadgets, and those who succumb give in to this pressure. So even in less affluent households, there are some of the latest technology.

Children as young as 4 have Facebook accounts which their older siblings or parents open for them. They keep in contact with their friends using text or what's app sending a realm of constant pictures to each other. They even have their own codings to talk to each other.

My nieces school in South Africa firstly insisted that every child had to have a black berry as that's how they gave out homework and if they didn't they were put to a clear disadvantage as they had to rely on others to find out about their homework. Now they all have to have an iPad and this has been made as part of their school policy. Personally I think they have gone too far but who am I?

In my class for reading, I have asked the students to do fluency checks

on their reading, to increase their speed. Some of my students are using

FACETIME to time their learning partner during the fluency check, from home because in the classroom, you need to work with a partner. I thought this was a clever ideaof using technology to work from home, doing school work.

When I asked her how do you think technology is being used in the school, she said" We use them nicely."

She also said that she play special games at home on the computer, that she doesn't do at school.

Sofia goes to a private school but at school

use of OCT is restricted. Here is what she said:

This comment is from a boy who struggles with reading. He was reading a classic (much to my surprise based on the books he had chosen previously), I'm sure the fact that he could not see the thickness of the book helped also clocking up pages was a bit like a game.

 My teacher uses her laptop, computer and sometimes her tablet to show the class videos about a topic. We play games and do other activities base on the lesson. We sometimes given the opportunity to go on Google and bing to research information. But I wish we could use the internet more often at school.

Once a week, she has classes in the computer lab, where she plays 

three different games. In one of them, she learned how to make a robot.  

When I asked about the differences between the school and home, she said that at school she uses

the computer and at home she uses the tablet. And that she preferred the games from the school.

My teachers are using multimedia in my classroom to show videos of the human body and the solar system.

I used paint for drawing.

I used a rapid typing tutor and currently at home row keys.

My teacher also introduces my British council kids website.

• How would you describe the difference in the use of ICT inside and outside school?

I used laptop, desktop computer and tablet at home.

I am using desktop computer for play game. Cricket, GTA games, Spider man etc. I like to see weather updates and inform everyone.

On my desktop computer at home there are so many icons for educational games, and Math, science and social studies. I turn on the WiFi and used the internet.

I used my parents laptop. He teaches me MS Word and other things.

I used a tablet for Android games and educational material such as Grade 3 Friendz for Math, Scienc, Social Studies and other subject. I teach my grand father and grand mother how to use Smart Phone. They both have a smart phone and I have two tablet computer at home. I download everything from Google Play Store.

Our Blog

Technology really helps us make presentations and complete tasks. It has also been helpful for sharing things on google drive and working on stuff together. I use it home lots for entertainment mainly and at school I use it for work and education.

I think that technology in our school is a great bonus to our learning. it is a new way to learn. inside of school i use the technology for presentations and learning and at home i use the technology for homework.

At home I can do anything i want using the internet .

I think in the future, our class

the use of computer or ICT at school is very limited, but she uses it a lot at home,

for reading books, using Oxford Owl, reading eggs, turtle diary, and other educational

tools. She specially likes to read/listen to books, as it reads faster than she reads and she can

How do you use ICT at home?

At home I use ipad which has a game of animals. I also use a computer to play games, listen to music and do some homework.

It´s different at homebecause at my house I don´t have maths games like at school, just other games –not learning games. I use the internet to look for music and watch Pink Panther.

What do you like about the use of ICT in the class room?

She said it was great because it is so interesting  and she does not have to wait on computer class to use the computer.

She  likes to paint and use the pencil without sharpening it.

Do you think ICT is a good way  to learn?

She  shouted absolutely!  She reported that the ipod is the best toy ever, because she can talk on face book with her

friends and with her dad on Skype whenever he travels to Miami.

We use technology in the classroom through Smartboards, a publishing tool, learning tool, entertainment, research and to help us learn. They also stated that we use iPads, computer labs and laptops as technology tools but we need more.

Then they discussed with me the difference between ICT inside and outside of school.

They use laptops, phones, iPad, tablets, PS3, Xbox and iPods. They use this regularly but in schools there are limited opportunities with the amount of devices and not enough devices for each person.

To add further to the discussion one of the students has a job to do in class which involves picking up lunch orders. I asked him "why didn't he pick up the lunch box from the canteen? " he said "that he forgot and he needed a reminder, like on his phone!"

At home I have an iPad and my mum makes me play games that are educational!

I teach Spanish Language and Communication and I was implementing a Project to use Technology tools in order to improve their communicative skills, literacy, writing and orthography and I am sure this way students really improve their skills.

We enjoy the use of ICT at home. We play games on our tablets and i pads. We look for information for our projects given by our teacher. We print pictures for colouring and painting. We paint on computers.
