An issue that is relevant to the novel, Everything Everything, is physical illness. Madeline experiences a rare illness called Baby bubble disease. Basically she is Allergic to everything and is limited to the things she can touch,"Anything can trigger a bout of sickness." (yoon 3) Madeline has lived with this disease for over 15 years. To sum up everything, Madeline is basically isolated from the world.
Another issue that is relevant to the novel is depression. Madeline's mom is still in the state of depression because of the lost of her husband and son. Carla has a hunch that maybe she didn't fully recover from her loss, "Maybe she never recovered from what happened to your papa and brother." (Yoon 270)

From reading the book, Everything Everything, readers should realize that there is a true meaning behind the story. The main theme of the book is to not waste your life being isolated from the world but to go explore the world for its special sites. The theme could also be to not be afraid of the risks that people may have to take in life. For example, Madeline took a huge risk when she escaped off to Hawaii with Olly, "I'm running away," (Yoon 172) That was a big risk Madeline took. In the condition that she is in anything could have happened to her.

Another possible theme for this book is to not ruin someone else's life because of an obstacle you had to go through. In the book, Madelines mom lied to her about being sick. The reason she lied is so that she wouldn't loose Madeline like she lost her husband and son. She felt like the only way to keep anything from happening to her was to isolate her from the world, "I knew it was more than that. I had to protect you. Anything can happen to you out here. In the world." (Yoon 277) It is believed that her mother's intentions were not to ruin Madeline's life but to keep her daughter longer than she had her husband and son.

There are several ideas and lessons to learn from this novel. However, what stood out the most to me was how you shouldn't wait until you become ill or something tragic happens before you decide you want to see the world. In the book, Carla mentions something about how life is a gift,"Its not your fault. Life is a gift. Don't forget to live it,." I think that's what a lot of teenagers in this day of time need to understand. That life is a gift an we shouldn't waste it sitting in our rooms but exploring the world for its beautiful sites. In conclusion that is what I recieved from the book."
