From what I can understand about Freud's theory, there is the id, ego, and superego. The Id wants constant pleasure, and wants is immediately. The ego is the part of the mind in the middle, where it is thinking about doing a certain action. Then you have the superego, which is the part of our mind which goes over the possible consequences and downsides of a certain decision. All three of these parts work together to come to a compromise on something.

I do feel Freud's theory holds up. You have the two parts of your mind which are telling you opposite things. One side wants one thing while the other side wants the other thing. This basic concept that most people have in their minds is fully realized in Freud's theory, and it all makes logical sense. You have to come to a compromise on something to make a decision you are happy with.

Freud's theory of the id, ego and superego is quite fascinating. Based on this theory, the id is the desires a person has and those desires are wanted immediately. The id is an unconscious thought that is assessed by the conscious ego and checked if it is okay to do or not. If the ego declares that the id is not okay to do in that moment, then the desire is suppressed and maybe done later or brought on by a dream. The superego is another part of the unconscious that states whether something is okay or not to do based on past experiences. Those experiences being something like taking a cookie out of a cookie jar without permission then getting scolded later. That scolding might make you cry or feel sad so the superego later on says, "hey we don't want to feel sad again so don't do that."

This theory does make quite a lot of since but there is something that I can't agree with. The superego is supposed to guide us towards socially acceptable behavior but there are some people who continuously repeat actions that aren't socially acceptable such as a kleptomaniac. Does this mean they have weak egos? Does this mean they have no superego? Or does this mean that their id is just too strong? But if that's the case then why can they resist some desires but others they can't? Does this always mean that the person has a mental illness?

My new understanding of id, the ego, and the superego is that the id and superego balance out to create the ego. The id just wants whatever seems the best at the time, and just wants pleasure. While the superego wants what is best overall, and makes us think about the consequences. The ego is the middle ground between these two. The ego makes the compromise to get the best of both.

I would argue that this theory is reasonable because we often find ourselves looking for a compromise (ego). When I make a decision I think about the benefits, then the consequences, and eventually (sometimes it take a while) I come up with a solution that I still benefit from with fewer consequences. That is the general idea of Freud's theory.

Id: The Id segment on the mind is immature, selfish, and egotistical. If in charge of the mind completely, everyone would be acting on a whim. Forethought would not be a thing, making life and human interaction as a whole much more complicated.

Superego: This is the more anxious part of the mind. This segment is concerned with social acceptance and morals. Personally, this is my most dominant area mentally.

Ego: This is the segment of compromise in the mind. In other words, the Ego is there to find the best of both worlds between the Id and the Superego. If something is socially accepted enough and if you desire it, your Ego will allow you to make your wishes occur.

Freud's theory is reasonable because people are egotistical (pun intended) and prefer to do things if it will boost them up in the world. However, I don't believe that the strength of these three segments is the same for every person. I believe that some people have more tolerance for suppressing their "darkest" desires than others. Perhaps some people just take longer to come to a compromise between their Id and Superego. As they progress through their compromise I'm sure that their desires and surroundings may change so that their behavior would be accepted. One thing I really don't like about this theory is that it seems to say that everyone has deep, dark desires that they cannot act on. Sure, there are secrets people should keep to themselves, but not everyone has such terrifying things happening in their minds. The Superego and Ego are the most reasonable and relatable, in my opinion.

My understanding of Freud's Theory is that he believes the mind as a whole is made up of three parts; Id, Ego and Superego. In which both Id and Superego live in the subconscious whereas Ego is present in the conscious. Id is the more unreasonable, reckless and childlike personality where it demand things that ultimately give it pleasure. Whereas the Superego, the complete opposite of Id is the more logical and moral personality that goes against Id's requests. Lastly Ego is the compromise of both creating balance and equilibrium. If Ego is unable to compromise of create equilibrium causing a person to give in to Id's demands it would cause them to be have mental illnesses making them mentally unstable.

Yes, it is reasonable. The theory takes into account both sides and finds a middle ground creating balance. Without said compromise it would create chaos. Many times however many people only have to rely on Ego since it lives in the conscious. Although many don't see the presence of all sides, they are still present. The theory also states that without the balance, one would be mentally unstable which explains why certain people commit rash actions since they are giving into their Id.

My understanding of Freud's theory is that it explains different stages of our childhood and how we as human beings act as we tread through life. Id is the primitive impulsivity we all may experience as children when we don't know any better. Superego can relate to the time in your life when you learn and can understand what is right and wrong in the world when you get past the Id part of childhood. Then there is the ego that lets us compromise when we make decisions as we get older. But, these things won't always be balanced in everybody's mind and they can differ from person to person.

I feel that our ego helps us stay balanced with our decisions, and be able to think of both sides when compromising and choosing a solution. The id is the part of us that is impatient, and rather risks the feelings of regret while enjoying the moment. While our superego understands the feeling of regret after and would rather come up with a better solution to make us feel good in the end. In the end, the example about the chocolate bar, helped me gain a better understanding of the three.

Many things in the world require balance including our minds. According to Freud's theory we have three areas of the mind, ID, ego, and superego. The ID is an impulsive part of the mind that makes decisions with no thought. If it wants something it wants it as soon as possible. The superego is the exact opposite. The superego shuts down ideas and is backed by judgment. It's the part of our mind that shuts down ideas. The ego is almost like a combination of both. The ego allows the mind to make decisions, but with forethought unlike ID. Ego makes sure that a decision will come out in the smoothest way possible.

When I'm too afraid to try something so I don't that is superego. I believe that Frued's theory is very much present in everyone's life. I feel that a balance between the three leaves for a healthy mind. It would also explain why sometimes people make poor life choices, an influx of ID or superego could cause us to make the wrong choices.

I had no idea or knowledge of the id, ego, and superego before this presentation. After going through the presentation Frued’s theory makes sense. The id is the part of the mind that is instant and compulsive. The ego is almost a combination of the id and superego as it is instant but has thought. The superego is what gives you moral and ethical thoughts.

I believe that Frued’s theory is reasonable because it makes sense from a scientific standpoint. This is because there is enough explanation, although I believe that the balance of the three segments can vary depending on how someone is raised, their gender, or their age.

I think Freud’s theory is reasonable and applicable. Freud helped in recognizing cognitive dissonance difficulties with the prevailing ideological paradigm. While offering an attempt to rectify the dissonance when it comes to modern psychology. There is a huge influence based on the id, ego, and superego model, it helps describe one’s decision-making process and whatnot.

Freud’s theory is a theory that is well maintained and provides useful descriptions of certain aspects of mental processes through three concepts: id, ego, and superego. All three of them bleed into one another and balance each other out. Breaking it down, starting at the id, is an instinctual drive that you have. Usually driven by pleasure and impulse. Next, is the superego, the part of the mind that responds to social pressures. Last but not least, ego, you, and your consciousness.
