This photo was taken on the begining of the year 2019. My family and I went to the beach to celebrate New Years with our friends.
During this trip I learned the importance of frienship, and the importance of having a good time. My friends and I were making the most out of that trip, and we realized that if it wasn’t for them, my vacation wouldn’t have been the same. Also another thing that I learned along the way is how important is to live your life all the way, because when you have time to reflect on the things that have happened recently, you will realize how fun life can be, and how outrageous some things are in life.

Daniel Spencer

This is a picture of a beautiful sunset that I took from my apartment just over a year ago. My family was lucky to end up in an apartment with such a good view of the city. The sunset was the reason I took this picture, but looking at it again got me thinking about the lower-class people, specifically those living among the wealthy, who might not feel quite as comfortable living where they are. It's probably a bit noisier at ground level, and they might not have as good window views as us, not just of sunsets.

In the fall of 2015, I travelled to the northern most part of the Philippines to visit Whang-Od who is now 100 years old. My sister had been living in the Philippines for almost four years and had always heard stories about her and seen the beautiful tattoo work she had been doing since age 15. Traditional tattoos in the Philippines were tattooed when men won in tribal warfare. In this picture, my sister is being tattooed by Whang-Od's great grandchild. She is using two bamboo sticks with a lemon thorn attached to one end and tapping over and over again, puncturing the skin. The open wound is then rubbed with soot from a pine fire.

This picture is only showing a small piece of an amazing and long journey. To reach Whang-Od's village took a 6 hour bus ride from Manila to Baguio, another 6 hour journey to another town where we caught a jeepney for three hours to Kalinga. We rode the WW2 style jeepney on the side of the mountain sitting a top rice bags. When we finally reached Kalinga we thought we were there, only to discover we had to quickly hike up the mountain before the sun was falling. Once we reached the village, we went to bed soon because there was no electricity in the village.

A few months ago precisely in November of 2018 my service group went to Coban. ADLA or Amigos de la aldea is the organization which we teamed up with to provide villages in rural Guatemala with electricity. During this trip we traveled 7 hours to get to the village where we gave them solar powered lights. The people in rural Guatemala that don’t have access to electricity can spend up to 30 Quetzales a week on light and electricity sources. They use 3 candles a night which costs them 1 Quetzal each which is already 21 Q and apart from that in order to charge their cellphones (most have smartphones) they must walk 2-3 hours to get to the tiendita where one cell phone charge costs 3 Q and then back another 2-3 hours to get to their house. This is a major problem here is that about 3 million people do not have access to any electricity. Our goal as a service group is to provide as many villages with light as we can.

Daniel Spencer
I took this picture one morning last summer. There was so much fog (or low clouds?) that it was hard to see past my own balconies for a bit. I definitely wouldn't be able to snap a picture like this inside my other house in the US, which is why I like these kinds of photos. There was another one I took on the same morning in the living room, but I apparently can't upload more than one picture on a single post.

This place eversince I was little, Ive looked at it as the place where I can relax, but at the same time have fun. This place raised me the way that I’m today, and if it wasn’t for this, I wouldn’t be the same, because the amount of inspiration that i have gotten ever since the beginning, has been greater than anyother other place on earth. One of the things that I enjoy when I see this picture is the amount of memories that I’ve had here, and this helps me relax in tough moments.

Far away you can look at how buildings are taking over what used to be a land of the Aztecs filled with trees and rivers, as you can see closer in the picture. Mexico, City where over 21 million people live, the fauna where other generations lived have been destroyed and taken over by buildings. This makes me think how a lot of things have changed as time has passed, how we are destroying what used to be one of the biggest empires in America, Tenochtitlán the Aztec empire. In the next few years, this can change where there will be no more forest in this beautiful city as probably more buildings and houses are going to need to be built.

This picture will mean a lot in the next 50 to 100 years because of the more options there are and even more that will be created. For some people gender is a very sensitive topic and when people look back at this picture they will not be used to seeing anything strange and unfamiliar that will probably not be seen or used again. That is why I think it will be a picture that will be talked about in the future as nobody will remember the old days when it was like this and even more simple to just male and female.

Guatemala has big percentage of poverty, kids and elders being the most affected. Families in poverty can't maintain their entire family, leaving behind the elder and the kids in very dangerous zones. In December 2017, I went with a couple of friends and family to a red zone in Guatemala to visit 2 houses which took care of orphans and elder people. We played and had a meal with them. It was one of those moments when you receive more from giving than from getting. They were very thankful and happy for the visit, from this I learned how blessed I am, to have a family who love me and want the best for me. But still, many kids are left behind and abandoned, I hope someday the poverty will decrease and more houses like this with big heart continue to help Guatemala.

It is in the middle of a forest that will never be cut down because of the tags that they all have if one is cut down they will know. This is a change because normally trees are cut down but in this project, they will be incorporated they cut down as little as possible. It will be significant in 50 years because of the increasingly reducing forests in Guatemala.

Poverty is one of the biggest problems in Guatemala. The majority of Guatemala lives under the poverty line, for Guatemalans this means a lot of things. Most Guatemalans can not afford proper medicine, even for something a simple as a headache. This results in death rates going up with things like cancer, denge and other things. Another problem caused by poverty in Guatemala is education. Just as most families cannot afford proper medicine, most families cannot afford a proper education for their children. This results in kids going to public schools; that are not good. This is a lot of families biggest challenge when it comes to getting out of poverty. Most Guatemalans can not obtain a proper job due to their inability to obtain a degree. The third biggest challenge due to poverty in Guatemala is food & hygiene.

Guatemalan people are prone to be contaged with a variety of viruses, and infections due to antigenic practices on themselves and their food. For example most Guatemalan families boil water to get it clean, they can not afford clean water.

Poverty is one of the biggest challenges that Guatemalans face day to day, and need to live with.

I took this picture in a small town in Mexico city called San Rafael. The town where my father grew up in poverty where he couldn't get what he wanted like I do right now. He raised me to be humble and remember where we came from. I would visit my grandparents there every weekend have fun with my cousins and my uncles/aunts. I got to know how people lived there, how the conditions might not be the best and the town might not be the greatest, but looking forward my dad a successful accountant grew up there and never gave up.

Living in a place where people who are not used to that life might dislike the place as they are used to be given everything. Even though the town is an amazing place where I have a lot of fun when I go back to Mexico. It's like my second home as my family is there where I know that I feel safe. That place taught me a lot of things but mostly to take advantage to what I have right now, it might not be the greatest but in the bright side I love that place and appreciate that I grew up there.
I believe and hope that later on, the lifestyle there can change and that little town can become a great place where people spend their time with joy and happiness.

This picture was taken in Guatemala. I traveled with my family to the place and was told there are many animal activities we could do and have fun together. However, during the activities, they did not realize this has negative impacts on the animals. Under the circumstances they lived in, there are many chemicals, thermal and mechanical trauma leading themselves being hurt accidentally, after the long time being locked up, they began to lose the ability to heal and their natural instinct. After being locked in the same place for years, they would suffer from depression due they are forced to be broken away from families, forced labor, constant boredom and nowhere to go. Leading animals have shorter life spans. Scientists proved the wild animal’s life spans would have 56 years but for the animal in captivity would only have an average of 16 years.

This past summer I went to Israel for a while month and lived like a real Israeli. I went on many adventures and had unforgettable experiences. We traveled all around the country from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv and even to Eilat which is all the way south. The experiences varied. Sometimes it would have parties and joke around , others cultural experiences like being in the army for a week and seeing what every Israeli has to do and it was also religious for example going to the western wall. For me it was very important to go to the western wall because in my religion it is a very important landmark which represents the only standing wall from the second temple after it was raided by the Romans. When I went there i felt that it was a very important part of met as a Jew because every single person from my religion sees it as a sacred place. The first thing I did there was put my tefilin on and pray and then I did what everyone else does and wrote a wish in a paper, folded it up and put in inside a crack in the wall. In conclusion this trip was a very important trip for me where I made friends and memories that I will always cherish and never forget.

We now have advanced electronics that let us read whatever we want without having a physical book we can stop using books. As generations progress, the need for having a book will start to drop, some book publishing companies will start to drop. 100 years from now, you will probably no longer see people carrying books, newspapers, or any paper source. You will start to see people reading on phones, iPads, kindles, or any electronic really. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing or a good thing because the art of reading will not stop.

This picture was taken in Monterrico, 2nd January 2017. It was the first time in Guatemala, and my dad was living there. He decided to show me and my mom the country. It was my first time, so it was surprising how different cultures are, differentiating from Morocco and Spain. How people lived, and how they carried their lives. At that time, I was passing through a lot of problems in my life, and I chose the photo, since I needed a small change, and seeing a different place, different people and different cultures, made me disconnect and reconsider how my life is going. This trip, apart of being a great opportunity to learn about a new culture and place, it was the beginning of an improvement in my life.

A little girl being hugged by her father. Moments a baby could never forget. Those moments in which she feels safe and protected in the arms of the man who will always love her. Since little I would have always looked up at my father as a role model, a person in which I could trust and be sure that it's always doing the right thing. As time went by those thoughts fade away, probably because of the distance we have now. When little I would spend the afternoons with him, playing or watching movies. As the years went by that connection between us started to be weaker and weaker, it didn't felt the same way. Things changed. Although the connect doesn’t feel the same way, love will just keep on growing. Those moments as kids are the ones that all parents should protect the most, because when the child is growing up everything changes.

This picture was taken on February 6, 2019. During this trip I got the opportunity to have multiple experiences, with my mom we got the chance to go eat to two Gordon Ramsay's restaurants, go see the Cirque du Soleil “O” and see and meet my favorite band, the Backstreet Boys. In this trip I had the chance to have a better bonding with my mom, considering that she works and I have things to do and we don’t have much time together. However in this trip it changed because we were the only ones traveling. I got the time to communicate more with my mom without fighting or get mad at each other. As said before, I got the chance to meet the members of my favorite band and be right in front of the stage during their performance. In my opinion, this is one of the most memorable trips I have ever took and I appreciate everything that happened.

This photo was taken last summer, in 2018, in the country I was born, Morocco. That summer, apart of being the best one, living unforgettable experiences, was the one that showed me an important value, friends. Before that summer, my parents bought me my first Play Stations, and with the fortnite impact, I just played and played for hours. I went to Morocco without video games, so I would stop playing for approximately one month. It was very hard not to play, since my cousin had the console, but I decided to start going with my friends to the beach and to the pool. Later on, I started playing soccer, and hanging out with them at night. Having this time to spend it with friends, doing sports and hanging out, made me think about how videogames are making us more antisocial while time flies. In 50 years, maybe we will not see people playing soccer or any sports, and just playing video games.

In January of this year my big brother, my mom, and I went to Atitlan and went to a village that is called Palopo. We went there because we went to paint the houses of the people that lived there. When we parked the boat in the village I saw for the first time how the people in Guatemala really live. Everyone was throwing trash and nobody had the decency to throw the trash in a trash can, but they were very polite with the tourists that were there. We started to walk up the mountain to where the houses were. The person that was organizing this event was waiting for us to paint the houses. There was a specific pattern that you had to follow, they were birds and some other animals. After we painted we left and went back to the hotel. That night I reflected on how fortunate I am to have everything that i have because I wouldn't like to live like them.

Christmas is going to be more for the money because the prices are going to increase. The decoration things are going to be more expensive. The gifts are going to be more expensive. I think that Christmas is a day that it is just for my family and friends. It is a day of happiness. I took the picture at the top of "la nariz del Indio"one of many mountains that surrounds the lake. It will be relevant in 50 years because it will not look as beautiful as it looks today. Lake Atitlan is another lake in Guatemala that is contaminated. It will change because of the way people don't really care about the environment.

Since Bitcoin was created on January 3, 2009 a lot of people started to invest by buying an amount of this cryptocurrency. At the time of its release you could buy 5,000 bitcoins for $27 at today's worth that would now be $17,885,350. In around 2017 when Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies started to get traction its value soon began to rise and by December 5, 2017, one bitcoin was worth a whopping $19,650 and 5,000 would be worth $98,250,000. Unfortunately like every currency its price fluctuates but for cryptocurrencies the price varies by different factor such as how many people are buying and how many are selling that currency. On December 29, 2017, its price had already gone down to $12,839. Since last year the currency has still been on decline but this past month it has risen( as you can tell in the picture). "Just as gold bars are lost at sea or $100 dollar bills can burn, Bitcoins can disappear from the internet forever." (Fortune, 2019). Many people that bought bitcoin a couple years ago will and have forgotten their passwords making their bitcoin disappear forever. Some people believe that in some years the price of bitcoin will rise again and all the lost bitcoins in those accounts will be the lost treasures of the 21st century.

It was a very important game where we played for the third place in the federation league, and we were only 5 players overall for different reasons. This picture is the symbol for accomplishments, hard work, teamwork, and family. Because no matter how many people we are facing, in the end of the day it is all about the vibe and the will to win we bring to the court. The day after, we won a different game, just as important, also with 5 players. One example of this is about a little girl that had 30 seizures every day drank the CBD oil and immediately after that she practically never had any more seizures again. This is just one of many examples that CBD can help many people in the world. CBD is so successful that the NBA and NFL are going to start letting players use it to recover faster and help deal with their injuries. When the FDA allows hospitals to use this type of medicine the world will become and healthier place to live.

As any other hispanic country, Guatemala faces a great amount of machismo considering the lack of education that many individuals have and so it has become a tradition. One of the main reasons that Guatemala hasn’t fully develop as a first world country or even second world country. Maybe if women had been more relevant years ago, a change in the development of this Central American Country. While time flies, women are starting to make a change, and be more respected than years ago. In 100 years, women will be more valued, and would make a big change.

As a kid I always felt awkward approaching some of my more distant family members scared that I will forget their names, (I still do, Feb 2019) because having having four families is not the easiest thing to handle. My mother's family, my father's family, step mom's family and step dad's family. However some of them are unforgettable. And no matter how much I hate them all sometimes (most of the time) they will always be there for me, and I will be there for them. Because family is not determined by blood relation, it is determined by heart. Most of my life I thought about my step brothers and sisters as irrelevant, annoying, and I did not want anything to do with them. Only when I grew up I realized that even if I did not know their names, family will forever remain your family and you can't change them. And even if I could, I would never for anybody in this world.

This picture shows the machismo in Guatemala. In Guatemala machismo is one of the biggest problems, impending women from working and being successful.
