For my project topic proposal, I have chosen to do my research on the importance of Green Building in the United States. The importance of developing sustainability standards, codes and methodologies for homes, buildings, communities, and infrastructure can reduce the environment impact of construction processes, materials, and operations, and provide leading edge information and advice on all aspects of the sustainability of buildings.

The practice of Green building is important as it will come with great impact in the reduction of human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle. Within the United States, Green Building can essentially reduce total energy use, consumption of electricity, carbon dioxide emissions, total water consumption, and conserve and restore natural resources. Beyond these benefits, the purpose of Green Building will not only benefit the environment, but as well social and economic sustainability. In the long run, our future generation to come will thank us for making the decision of bettering our communities and our planet.

Throughout the semester, my goal is to share my knowledge on the importance of this topic with you guys. I hope that I can accomplish this by keeping you informed as I continue to do my research. More on, I hope to understand how Green Building has changed and developed over the years, and if it has been impacted in anyway due to COVID 19.

As I begin to do intense research on Green Building, I would love to know your comments and suggestions on this topic, as well, is there anything you guys want to learn more about in regard to this topic proposal, so that I can keep you informed.

Blog Post: Practice and Reflect rhetorical analysis and information literacy

The following article, “Everyone Is Tired of Always Staying Silent”: Inside a Worker Rebellion in the Central Valley by Julie Lurie published by Mother Jones journalism is essential to speak on. As I analyzed this article, the author does great in representing and bringing awareness to agricultural worker rights through pathos and logos rhetorical technique. More specifically, Julie Lurie, the author raises awareness for immigrant farmworkers who are taken for granted in the agricultural community since COVID-19 pandemic began. Through logos rhetorical technique, Julie Lurie does not only show us data, facts, but argues on behalf of these hardworking people who deserve rights to better pay, and work benefits from the worker's point of view. In the article, Veronica Perez, one of the many essential workers at Primex farms and advocator has shown to be affected vigorously and explained how severely her coworkers have been treated since the pandemic began. Veronica claims she's one to never retaliate or speak up, but enough was enough after seeing coworkers passing away due to her employer (Primex) not caring for the health safety of the workers. Primex would continuously expose workers by having them work among others who tested positive with COVID while not informing them, and to add allowed workers to not follow safety COVID procedures. Just within the month of "May, employees at the 400-person plant were falling ill." Unfortunately, for these essential workers they had one of two choices - that was either work knowing you are sick and dying from COVID and provide for the family, or get fired for not showing up to work as mentioned in the article, "They use you until you can’t give any more of you—and once you have a problem, they’ll get rid of you like you’re nothing.” These essential workers were left with no choice but to work as most are "undocumented workers that don't benefit from federal coronavirus relief measures, such as expanded unemployment insurance." It truly breaks my heart that even through a pandemic employers care less for their employees. No matter if these essential workers are illegal immigrants, they are doing a job no one else will do and deserve work benefits through this pandemic like any other employee in the U.S. As we see, Julie Lurie does exemplary job with connecting the text to its readers (me), by using pathos rhetorical analysis. As the reader, I connect to this article on many levels, for I am an immigrant myself who came to the U.S at the age of 8 with my immigrant parents. In respect to Veronica Perez, I can relate when she commented, "It makes me want to cry..." because I have seen my parents both give their all to provide for my siblings and I, and all for people to take us for granted, humiliate us, and threaten us. As an immigrant I understand why Veronica fears to fight back and prefers to stay quiet but when it's our own people dying and being affected, that's when something must get done. It makes me proud when people, such as Veronica stand up for our people, it reminds me of a saying we Latinos use, "¡El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido!," which translates to, "The people united will never be defeated." In this case, that is exactly what happened and hope to continue to see these essential workers fight for what is their moral rights in the U.S. Even if it will take years and years to see change, I truly am proud to see my people fight for what needs to happen.

In this Article, "Everyone Is Tired of Always Staying Silent”: Inside a Worker Rebellion in the Central Valley, Julie Lurie used Information Literacy Framework authority by representing these essential workers by informing us with what is occurring with agricultural workers during this COVID pandemic. Julie Lurie keeps us informed through expressing that these workers' rights are not sufficient, and more needs to happen for them and for those who are working illegally. Throughout the article she keeps the reader informed and keeps them thinking of the information that is being presented. This information is something to keep in mind about and continue to be brought up since not much has changed for agricultural workers since Cesar Chavez movement on better opportunities for agricultural workers.

I have provided a video for you guys to proof that what Veronica has claimed is true. It isn't Primex only, but other companies within the Central Valley who are not protecting their workers through this pandemic.

Conformation Bias

The Narrative focus:
The term bias seems to be a prejudice against something. In California, the studies show that to have the health benefits, there should be a reduction in gas emissions which has been a problem due to pollution of air. The consistency in pollution and emission of greenhouse gases constitute too many problematic cases to people living in the areas.
The counter narrative:
With the counter-narrative, this paper focuses on how clean energy in the state is not better for the environment.

In California, the issue of gas emissions that pollute the environment has negative benefits to the people residing in these areas as many are affected, causing congestions in hospitals. The emissions of these gases will soon increase as the city is still growing with improved infrastructures. By day, millions of metric tons are emitted into the air which interferes with the atmosphere. With the country being ranked first as the producer of electricity from solar and biomass resources, it’s significant that it produces more renewable energy than other states.
My counter-narrative:
If people decide to continue and press politicians to focus on improving the air quality, it can fight the counter-narrative of how wind energy can be disruptive to bird and bird habitat and problems associated with the use and mining of silicon for solar panels. A majority of pollution comes from lithium-ion batteries which are not recycled. If the government would enforce rules like recycling of used batteries in electric vehicles, it would be easier for good healthy habitats for birds.

As the genre, I selected to write a eulogy. The audience in the eulogy are Karen's friends and family members who attended her memorial service.

Words cannot explain how grateful I am to have such wonderful individuals in our lives. Thank you for all of your love and support on behalf of my family. We are grateful for all of the prayers, wonderful messages, and flowers you have offered our family. Nonetheless, the passing of Karen, our loving sister, has not been easy.

Karen, as many of you know, was a wonderful, down-to-earth woman. Besides from just that, she was our sister, a mother and wife, and a friend to everyone she met. Instead of mourning, let us remember Karen for who she was: a brilliant light. If Karen had one wish, it would be that we remember her name and the happy times we shared. Just as when Karen and I were shopping at the mall, we did something unplanned. We got piercings just for fun. I'll never forget her witty sense of humour or her insane laugh, which made everyone around her laugh, although uncomfortably. The point is, friends and family, let us not be sad.

I realize it's difficult to lose someone we care about, but keep in mind that this isn't the end. It's a farewell for the time being till we meet again, hopefully soon. I promise I'll love on your kid's as if they're mine. Thank you for leaving us a piece of yourself in the form of your children. Karen, we adore and miss you.

I recently had to use the Stan State library to find some articles. I took advantage of the opportunity to ask a librarian for assistance. While searching for articles, I used the ask a librarian feature to seek advice on how to find the right articles for my research subject and which databases to use. They advised me to utilize OneSearch first before diving into a database because it would yield smaller search results. She walked me through the process of using one search. This greatly aided me in locating appropriate sources for my research. She then recommended some databases for me to use after I completed the OneSearch. What I liked best about the ask a librarian option was that they responded quickly to any questions I had
