It also explains their responsibilities regarding confidentiality and limits to confidentiality (ASCA, 2016).

They are required to instead refer students to outside services. For example, someone suffering with depression and thoughts of suicide, needs to be referred to a mental health practitioner. When it is a crisis situation such as finding out that someone is a victim of human trafficking, there are many outside resources that the victim needs to be referred to.
