Greg in the Beginning

Greg is seen to be a person who doesn't value his education. That's because he's doing poorly in math class and that actually doesn't bother him. Also, Greg is narrow-minded since he's quick to judge. For instance, when Lemon Brown tells Greg that he has some treasures, Greg asks, "What do you have, gold coins?" (Myers 32). This shows that Greg is quick to assume things. He doesn't consider the possibility that Brown's treasure may not be gold coins. Also, when Brown says that people used to call him "Sweet Lemon Brown", Greg mocks him by saying "Sweet Lemon Brown?" (Myers 36). At this point of the story, Greg is making fun of Lemon Brown because of Brown's nickname.

Greg in the Middle

In the middle of the story, Greg is seen to be more caring protective of Lemon Brown as there are thugs trying to hurt Brown. According to the narrator, "As Greg howled, the light moved away from Lemon Brown....Greg exhaled in relief as Lemon Brown made his way slowly back up the stairs" (Myers 72 & 77). This shows that Greg has the oppurtunity to leave Brown behind, but instead, Greg decides to help Brown. He's also seen to be very relieved that Brown is safe after the thugs left.

Greg leaves the tentament with more knowledge than when he came in. Towards the end of the story, Greg understands to never take anyone or anything for granted. According to the narrator, "Greg pushed the button over the bell marked Ridley, thought of the lecture he knew his father would give him, and smiled" (Myers 112). This shows that Greg is happy that he has a dad who cares about him. Greg also understands that it's not too late to change his relationship with his father. In all, Greg learns more about having an open mind thanks to Lemon Brown.
