I tended to in high school wait until last minute to do assignments, and i rushed through work without reading the details. So far i have done all assignments by Wednesday to set myself up for success and also taking my time and starting my day an hour early to make sure im set up for success.
-jessica hall

Hi everyone,
This is my first year in college and first time experincing taking all online classes and I was a little nervous at first. I then decided to set goals for myself, I tend to be a very lazy person at time and I wanted that to change. I decided to get a part time job that way I would have time to still do college work. I always try and complete my assignments a week ahead so I don't drown in school work. I have a very busy schedule with work so I really need to be on top of my school. I have learned to be way more motivated and manage my time a lot better.
- Natalie Putnam

Hi everyone,
This is my last semester at NCTC and I'll be graduating with my associates in December. I also recently applied to UNT for my bachelors. From my ACES scores, I really need to work on online learning. I plan to really focus on that because I do work full time and most of my classes are online. I have already developed a tentative schedule this semester by blocking out certain time slots that I spend specifically for school. As the semester is going on I am making adjustments to fit my needs and learning styles. It is definitely a challenge and I have work hard to keep myself motivated. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make online learning easier or just suggestions in general, I am all ears.
- Chanel Walther

Hello everyone (:
When completing my ACES activity & viewed my scores, I realized that one of my lowest scores was in the test taking category. It wasn't a shocker to me, mainly because in he past years I've struggled with test taking/test anxiety. Typically, I do great in assignments/homework activities, but when it comes to long exams, I suddenly find myself forgetting basic things. I want to build this skill by implementing more studying/reviewing time throughout my free time in order to establish. my confidence prior to taking tests. Recently, I've been trying to work slowly through my assignments to gain better understanding, rather than rushing to get them finished, but I am motivated to improve my test taking skills this year!

-Abigail Arevalo

Hi everybody! I hope you're all doing well :)
One area I want to focus on this semester, is my ability to keep track of assignments & the way I manage my time. I started off this semester really concerned about missing due dates and falling behind in class, but I quickly developed a habit of jotting down assignments and when they're due in a planner. It helps me keep track of what I need to focus on, and how much time I'll need to dedicate to a specific subject. I've also come up with a schedule which allows me to balance my online classes, social events, and work. I think having a set time for when I should pick up and work on assignments really helps me and my ability to be on top of my school work. -Kaitlyn McPherson

Hello everyone. I know I have flaws and things to improve on but this ACES plan has completely exposed me. Aces just showed me that maybe I wasn't as prepared and proactive as I thought. My time management and financial planning are my worst flaws. This semester i'm planning to address both issues, but my main focus will be on time management! Sunday night homework became a habit and it needs to be rectified. I've started using a weekly planner to better manage my time so I can track all important activities and set proper deadlines. Homework, study time and fantasy football will be the main focus. I want to get in the habit of having all school assignments done before Friday since the weekend brings too many distractions.
-Edgar Ramirez

Even if it’s just a small amount of notes, I feel like it’s really helped me this term with work, quizzes, & homework.

Good Afternoon! In my opinion the ACES score plan has really enlightened me on things I never thought possible. In the midst of me doing my assignments it also allows me to get to know myself better, on educational and personal matters. ACES has allowed me to look into topics and objects that matter most. before this score plan, I was going at my own pace not knowing that I could achieve so much more by doing just a little bit less. It allowed me to recognize my own strengths and weaknesses within my educational matters and little bit in my personal life. At the beginning and even at my other schools, I felt pressure from just being in school, now I feel I have the power to actually get things done because I am now aware of my strengths and weaknesses so I overcome and get it together.
-Danisha Lewis

I've always been someone who sees a far due date and won't work on it till a day or 2 before or earlier that day, for example right now. I've always wanted to fix it and say I will for the next time but never do. I think creating a planner with due dates and tasks to do each day will keep me on top of my procrastination.

I've always wanted to be able to stay on task with my work as much as possible and it's consistently been a struggle for me because it took me a while to realize that I actually never can get my school work done and procrastinate so much because I'm not interested in the work that I'm learning about. Why would you want to do something you have no passion or drive for? Something that's so dreadful. I would always ask myself "Why do I always wait till the last minute to do my homework or assignments?" It's because I feel as though school, in general, has just lost its spark. Teachers don't put that much effort into making assignments creative and exciting. But to the teachers that do, thank you for caring. I'm not just blaming the teachers either; whether I want to do it or not, it needs to be done in order for me to be successful. I need to make time for my assignments that mean nothing to me. It's a part of this journey I decided to take. It's like reading the instructions manual before you actually start the process. I sympathize with you guys for procrastinating and I get it why everyone does it. It's boring. School is so uninteresting. But, if it helps us with our time management so be it. The ACES score helped me realize I just need to be more organized with my time management and I need to be a part of the standard American school system better.

Hi guys, I’ve always struggled with goal setting and communicating with any form of higher power at a school in fear of seeming like a failure compared to other students. I plan on working on that throughout this semester. My ACES scores put that into perspective for me. A massive step for me recently setting a goal was coming to nctc because of the smaller community, how I can feel more comfortable in a more tight-knit group, and how I would not be so anxious around others.
And both of my struggles with goal setting and communication go hand-in-hand because I can talk to my administrator and then further assemble my goal, and that’s great because that’s what we were talking about in this chapter of our book. I am grateful that we were able to get to that so quickly. Either way, I am determined to keep working on both of those throughout the rest of this semester! :) - Isabelle Cody

In the past, I rarely got my work in on time, took notes, or even studied because I felt like either they weren't important to me or I didn't have the time to do it. However, this semester I've been writing in my own planner, taking and studying all my notes, and even asking more questions that I used to be afraid to ask. I believe after you change a bad habit you should be proud of yourself, so just remember after setting these goals an accomplishing them you should take pride in it and see how far you have came.

hi, when working through the aces program, i finished an d viewed my scores. when looking at my scores i was almsot low in everything but one stood out it had to do with involving yourself in the classroom. E ver since ever, ive always been independednt with anytghing i do, i dont need help and i get everything done quickly and well as soon as possible to cause i dont like waiting arounf for other people sometimes. But since i know this is a problem i can learn from that and build upon each day by involving mnyself in something to have a better outcome on assignments or daily tasks. Overtime my confidence will strenghtn, so will many other things. and i hope by doing this i can learn mnore in the classroom. - Aaron Eggenberg

It's been about 8 years since I've been in school, based on previous experience and my ACES score there are still somethings that I would like to improve on. I would like to improve on setting goals and having motivation and personal responsibility while in school. In the past I would set a goal and rarely ever complete it. I would have motivation at the beginning and then my motivation would just die, or I'd just move on to the next goal. I do tend to jump from goal to goal so this semester I want to stay focused and complete my short goals. Like many others I too have job, but to build my on my skill, I have set time aside throughout the semester to focus on my short-term goals.

On the days that I feel myself disconnecting or not wanting to do my schoolwork, I like to remember that I have decided to go back to school not only for a better future for myself, but for my daughter. I do feel that having that in the back of my mind will help me strive and continue to focus on working on myself.

- Jessica Ibarra

My ACES score showed me that I need to work on my time management skills. I tend to procrastinate on most assignments, which gives me a lot of anxiety about due dates. Getting things done early is an easy way to relieve this anxiety. I plan on being a high school teacher and coach so that due dates won't go anywhere. Starting this habit would be a great way to ensure I don't do the same thing grading papers and putting grades in the grade book.
- Tim Phillips

The one thing I want to grow in this year is my time management skills. I am 22 years old single mom of two daughters 5, and 2. I find it very hard working a full-time job, taking care of my kids, and going to college. I try my best to write out a calendar of my studies and assignments for the week but sometimes they just do not work out the way I plan. Like unexpected temper tantrums during my time, I am supposed to be studying. I need to find ways that I can either keep my children occupied while I study or a way to find someone to watch my children every once in a while. The best thing I have been able to find so far is going outside to a park letting them play but that is not feasible for every day.
Kailey Spangler
