I think the war could have been avoided if only the British were more reasonable with the colonists and gave them more freedom. The king should of heard the colonist out and listened to their conflicts instead of ignoring them. Also if they we’re reasonable then I think it would of been a sustainable life for everyone and that a war wouldn’t have been needed.

Reason 1 - Unfair Laws

The colonists were taxed and targeted more than anyone by the British. They were heavily taxed on things they bought and used daily. For example, The Stamp Act, Quartering act, Townshend act, The tea Act, and The Intolerable Act were all unreasonable to the colonists. The colonists then found ways to work around these acts and "beat the unfair system". These acts also made the colonists very upset and they began to neglect the British soldiers and wanted freedom from Great Britian as a whole. If only parliament and the king were more generous and didn't tax the colonist as hard then maybe they could have came to an understanding.

Reason 2 - Self Government

Another thing that upset the colonists was not being able to self-government. This meant that they could not govern themselves and make their own laws and set standards for the colonies (while still being loyal to the King). The colonist felt as they were paying high taxes to a government they had no representation in. The colonist had to live by how the king wanted or they would receive consequences. They did not stand by this and they knew they would have to do something to gain political control from Great Britain.

Reason 3 - Olive Branch Petition

This was the colonists final effort to get an understanding from the king. The reason they sent this was to inform his majesty that if it had not been for the acts of oppression forced upon the colonies by the British Parliament, the American people would be standing behind British rule. They wrote to the king stressing that they were still loyal to the king and that they were only fighting against the polices by his ministers. King George then refused to even accept or consider the petition. This was the final blow for the colonists (even for the ones who wanted peace) and this then led to the revolutionary war.
