Personally, I would define identity as an outline that forms around a person for who they are. The outline includes components such as beliefs and experiences that this person possess. From the two articles I've read (articles one and three), there's an overlap in the theme of identity theft and stereotyping. Article one really hones in on the stereotypes of indigenous people. The author disproves many of these stereotypes and even has the lines, "I'm not the Indian you had in mind." The line is repeated many times to help the reader understand about how everyone really has their own outline. As for article three, Marlon Brando wanted to let his voice be heard by someone who is shamed by the media and Hollywood. Littlefeather and many indigenous people had their identity taken from them and they weren't portrayed correctly by Hollywood movies. In my opinion, Brando was truly ahead of his time as these problems can be seen in recent years, specifically when Jada Pinkett Smith decided to boycott the Oscars.

- Nabil

Your identity is how you look, what you wear and how you act, but it is also your name, your age and your background. Identity is every single thing you do or don't do. It helps to define who we are from the rest of society while displaying similar qualities, beliefs and aspects of our personality with others.

Identity has no one meaning to anyone and has no singular purpose either. For many people, their identity can be something to be proud of and celebrate, but it can also be something that they're deeply ashamed of, or it could be something that they keep to themselves. I think that identity is important because it gives different groups of people a certain connection that might not exist otherwise. This can have varied effects though, as it can help strengthen communities by pointing out similar identities, but can also be a reason that so many Canadians are fine with the marginalization of other identities.

Identity is the footprint you specifically walk around with or the footprint your group of people walk around with. Your footprint is the same footprint you have when you are very young except it changes and grows with your experiences, values, who you love, what you do and how you act. Just like your footprint people can't always see it and it depends where you are walking and who you are walking with. When it comes to identity as a group, it's like everyone is putting on a shoe that has the same footprint, they all believe in the same things, they follow the same culture and look up to the same religion. Just because you are apart of a group that have the same identity it doesn't mean you can't take the shoe off and be who you are individually.
-brooke

Identity is the way people see you and the characteristics that make up who you are. I think its whats inside that matters most. However this is not how everyone sees you. People will use things like the clothes you wear, the style of your hair, and the group of people you hang out with to help identify who you are. There are many identities of who you are just as there are many masks people wear. BUT, there is only one identity that truly matter and that's how you see yourself. The way we see ourselves is the most correct, it does lack a few of the traits we may not be willing to accept. I say that because sometimes we have a hard time reflecting on who we are and we may miss somethings about ourselves... the way we treat people. Overall I think our identity is always our unique combination of traits that separates us from one another!

- Dylan

Identity is a combination of experiences and characteristics that define a person. While other people may try to identify you, I think that your identity is more about how you view and carry yourself. An individuals identity allows them to make connections with those who've shared similar experiences and create a sense of belonging. For example, I'm Inuit but I grew up in Ontario, and my family live in Labrador, so while it's part of my identity I have trouble connecting to the culture since I wasn't raised in it. However, the connections I have to the people allow me to feel a sense of belonging, and has helped me to understand and embrace that culture, creating an impact on my identity and how I chose to view myself and those around me.

- Sophia

What is Identity These Days

Throughout my time reading these articles I have kinda started to lean away from identity and more to what even is it these days. The rise of media and social media has really made it a challenge to know what is real and what is fake. This all depends on friend groups, living situations and trends. If you hang out with people who party you post pictures of yourself partying, if you want people to like you you copy a trend or post something that will get a positive response. I feel like everyone wants people to be impressed with them and wants everyone to see how ''cool'' they are but it is not the full story. Everyone has things that they are passionate about, which is a huge part about their personality, but will never show it because they are afraid people will not respond well with and see it as ''uncool''. It is scary to think about how easily it can be to not have a true identity and in the future not know what to do about it. At the end of the day it is truly hard to know what a real identity is, but all we can do is hope that people are able to find it down the road.
-Hunter

Identity is something that defines you as a person and something that puts you out in the world as someone unique. Each person has an identity unique to themselves and no one is similar or different. We all are unique in a different way but most importantly we all are unique. Our values define who we are and are the building block of our identity. Our identity edges towards our values and makes us different to others in the world. So if someone really values charity then that might make them be a caring person and then that overall adds to their identity as a caring and respectful person.

- Mustafa
