The narrator - He can read. Tends to fall in the shadow of Luo.

Luo - He appears to like the seamstress - flirts with her when he makes the bet about Morton's toe. Wants Luo to come tell the stories to her village - she wants them to have some freedom and she may like Luo.

The little seamstress - We finally know she liked Luo because she takes care of and kisses him. She is good with herbs/medicines. 

The sorceresses - witches, crones, old women who come to watch over Luo so the demons from malaria stay away.
