If my students are not enjoying the technological side of learning one day or even that week. I will go to the text and we will do a worksheet from our book. Sometimes pencil and paper are the best medicine to help students get a little less screen time.

Since I teach virtually, it is very important for all of the technology to function appropriately. We rely on zoom classes to deliver explicit instruction. However, there will be times when wifi is not reliable or zoom class has to be cancelled. In that instance, we record the lesson and send it to the students. We utilize Google Classroom for all assignments. There is not really a way to function without technology. One choice that the students have is whether to use Kami to complete their assignments or to use a pencil and piece of paper to work on their math problems. Kami is linked with Google Classroom so they can write directly on the document and it is automatically saved. If they choose to write their answers on paper, then they have to take a picture or scan of their assignment and upload it to the assignment.

For me I use a blended strategy in my classroom. So, I have backups to my backups and at any given time I can make a pivot to using the "old school" way of doing things.

But usually, I will vet and play with the technology for several days leading up to when I plan to implement it so that the only variable out of my control on "launch" is the network. I've found that this usually helps curb the issue with the technology glitching out on me.

It always helps to have a backup no technology plan, but that doesn't always work. There are a few ideas you can try, there is the classic pen and paper when it is sudden and no other alternative can be used. A class discussion about what they are been learning and what their thoughts about the topic are, most times works out well (maybe a little bit of lecturing).
