I've been teaching for almost 23 years. I'm very passionate about learning and education. 

I believe our role as educators goes beyond transmitting knowledge — our role is to nurture our students, the future nation builders, to become lifelong learners — to teach them the skills of 'learn how to learn' and to teach them the appreciation and the love for knowledge. As Socrates said, "I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think".

After went through two semester with my lovely students, I found the real path that I have to go through as a lifelong learner and educator. They transformed me to become a genuine educator.

To be a successful educator, I believe that our responsibilities not only limited to convey the knowledge to students. But, we need to be fully committed to transforming ourselves and move forward, in order to support USM with the status of APEX.

I'm Fang, lecturer from School of Aerospace Engineeering, USM.

I'm still a newbie in teaching, handled my 1st class 6 months ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks to bunch of excellent students and they drive me to be better educator.

My motto is: To teach is to learn together. Learning from each other and improving together to achieve our own goals. There's a lot of knowledge that can be shared and you will be surprised with what information your students can share with you. Respect the students and you will earn their respects too.

Being an educator reminds me of the famous poem from Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken" 

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

I chose the path to be an educator and that has made all the difference! I am a future secondary school teacher majoring in Teaching French as a Foreign Language.

To this day, I am thankful for the experience that I had being as a student to one wonderful teacher: Miss Fong Wai Chee. For it was she who inspired me to learn French, to go to great lengths to pursue my undergraduate studies in France, and to eventually, introduce our local youth the beauty of this Romance language.

I've done some French tutoring in the past since high school. My greatest experience in teaching so far was back in 2014 where I was teaching French to degree students in diplomatic studies in UiTM Seremban.

I learned a thing or two about Flipped Classroom model when I was doing my studies, but never had the chance to see it being put on practice. I would love to see how this model works in real-time (I do believe that somehow I AM experiencing it NOW).

I always say this to myself “Learning should be fun and enjoyable process”. It is all about sharing. The interaction must be adaptable and easier process for students to embrace a new knowledge. A lecturer is like a Chef. He needs to ensure the ingredients are enough and satisfy all needs. Thus, the menu will taste good and look appealing. Students should be guided accordingly on how to find the right ingredients. Then, they will need to explore how to combine it and make the outcome looks and feels great. I hope to learn new thing to strengthen my knowledge and gain some useful experiences. In addition, to embrace the usage of teaching technologies and enhance my teaching skills.

I have been teaching for almost 2 years. I did something like student centred learning in my class, for instance role play, group discussion etc. However, it is still not enough. I am still doing the talking and it was  a lot. 

Therefore, it is important to me to join this workshop. Students participation are very important in order to make them understand the course but not memorizing it.
