The Battle of Normandy took place in Normandy, France where the

Allied nations and German forces were attempting to occupy Western Europe.

The geography of the attack made sure that even if the Allied nations

didn't have the aspect of surprise it would still work. The Germans had thousands miles of coast to protect. Since Normandy, France is close to a beach, this made trying to land planes very difficult for both the Allies and the Germans. (Devvin)
