Several factors contributed to the demand for a more inclusive representation on the network..

4) The growing public awareness and criticism of MTV’s lack of diversity created pressure on the network to address its programming choices. Advocacy groups and fans alike demanded a more inclusive representation of music genres and artists.

Causes: 1) MTV’s programming was mostly white artists, which made a mostly small ''musical landscape'' that left out many other very talented musicians from people of color and unique backgrounds.

2) At the time, MTV primarily was encouraging rock Aswell as new unique artists but still focused and wanted white artists.

3) This approach reflected the current state within the music industry, which often excluded non-white artists.

One of the most significant ways MTV revolutionized rock music was by placing an emphasis on image and visual identity. Prior to MTV, a band's image was secondary to their sound. However, with music videos becoming the primary means of promotion, artists had to craft compelling visuals to stand out.

This led to the rise of extravagant costumes, elaborate stage personas, and memorable music video concepts. Glam rock bands such as Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Twisted Sister capitalized on this trend with their flashy outfits, dramatic makeup, and theatrical performances. The visual spectacle became just as important as the music itself, cementing the 1980s as the era of high-energy, visually captivating rock.
