If you are an absolute mad lad and choose the genocide route as your first playthrough, you wont really feel anything, as you have not met any of the characters fully. If you choose to play pacifist however, you really start to feel like these monsters are actually just trying to defend their home, the Underground. And if you are completely insane and don't care anymore, after your pacifist play through, you might reset the world/timeline, and start a genocide run. when you kill the first boss/main character, you feel regret, like you shoudn't have done this. eventually, if you do full genocide, you will probably want to play another pacifist run. But the "tutorial" monster, a flower with the soul of a goat, (ask me later or look it up, or play the game) remembers what you've done. He remembers your first pacifist run, and the final boss fight against him. He remembers EVERYTHING.
