The first sentence in the book is "This is a story about a man named Eddie and it begins at the end, with Eddie dying in the sun". This is very shocking to me because I've never read a book that has started with someone dying. The rest of the first chapter is the countdown to his death. This is a very strange but unique way for an author to start a story and a strange way to explain his death.

On this page, Eddie sees little kids, but instead of smiling or showing any joy, he simply grunts in response. Eddie comes across as distant and irritated, which shows that he has become a grumpy old man. I have a grandfather the same way where he is very irritated but has a kind heart and doesn't know how to show it.

In this part of the book, Eddie and his men were captured by the crazies. Eddie does quick thinking and decided to juggle so the crazies are entertained and not paying attention. While the crazies are focused on Eddie's juggling, his men take out their weapons and killing the crazies. I think that this was very smart of eddie to do and I wouldn't have thought of that in that kind of situation

In these 2 paragraphs of the book, Eddie is talking about all of the things he has learned in the army. He has learned which pocket to keep the letters from his family in, he learned to sleep on rock. Eddie has learned many things but the most heartfelt one was how he learned to pray quickly. War is very crazy and scary and it shows how scary it is to be in the army because he needed to pray often and quickly because he never knew how much time he had left. This sentence really makes me think how scary it is to be in war and it makes my heart break that having to pray quickly is a thing because everyone should have protection and live.

This part of the book Eddie is talking about how he isn't important and that he is "just a maintenance guy". This shows how worthless Eddie felt, he felt that everyone was better than him. Eddie went through depression and PTSD after war and we all wonder why but its because he has probably felt worthless his whole life because he was "just the maintenance guy".

Ruby then says "Thing that happen before your are born still affect you", this really changed Eddies perspective on life. It makes him really wonder what else that happened before he was born that has affected his life.

In this part of the book they are wondering what they are going to do about Eddies funeral. Eddie didn't have any relatives, no money, and they had no instructions on what to do. Eddie's body was sitting at the city morgue, as did his clothes and personal items because nobody knew what to do with him. This is really upsetting because Eddie has no one that cares for him even when he is dead, he is a lifeless body and still nobody can bury him or do anything but just leave him there

In this part of the book Eddie sees his dad in the hospital and he is trying to figure out what he did to his dad to deserve the abuse and brutality. Even though Eddies dad is barley answering and barley alive he doesn't care and just wants answers on what he did to deserve it. This is important because it shows even after everything Eddies dad has done to him he still just wants to know what he did wrong, and not if his dad will survive.

This part of the book is important to the rest of the 5 people you meet in heaven because it shows how much Eddie hated his dad. Eddie is basically saying that he feels that he did a better job then his dad at being a good person. It shows how many underlying issues Eddie had, one of them being holding onto issues and not letting go of the past. This had a big impact on Eddie because it effected him in the long run and made him the way he was before he died.

In this part of the book Eddie gets told he still has to meet 2 more people. It makes me wonder who he is going to meet, it could be a coworker, or a neighbor, or seriously anyway. I predict that it is going to be the one coworker that was mentioned in the beginning of the book, I think that maybe him leaving and letting him go to Mexico with his wife and giving him money to buy her something shows how Eddie effected them.

Eddie wonders if she met 5 people just like him. This is important because it wasn't just Eddie who met 5 people in heaven and that everyone who went to heaven experienced this.

In the end of the book, the author says "that each affects the other and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the store is are all one" This is very important and heartfelt because it brings you back to the beginning of the book when they talk about how everyone is connected somehow and how everything happens for a reason.
