2
July 19th 1932
It has been a month since the incident.. and almost everybody has moved on; Curley didn't show any remorse to his wife's death and quickly married a new one, Candy went back to swamping, awaiting his inevitable end, Crooks the negro got a beating from Curley and didn't care a hell damn about it.
The sun was high up the sky now, soaring above the Gabilan Mountains. With the absence of rain, the breeze still rushed and played cheerfully amongst the autumn hollows, scattering the golden sheens of crisp leaves. As the birds chirped happily, welcoming the new day, rabbits, of which Lennie would have loved to see, flooded the field of tall vibrant grass, shrouded with rainbows of brightly blooming flowers.
Sitting there in the corner of it all was the burial of my friend, Lennie Small. The atmosphere here was dense. A plethora of branches crowded the sky top, blocking the cold wind from passing by. The air was still humid from summer. Not much have grown. Filling the space was a hinder of light that trickled through the thick layer above. It was dark. But the small trickling light was enough to see.

It has been a month since the incident... A month since you died. It was the only way. There was so much at stake, and so little thinking time. I wished I could've ran off with you to our dreams, to our nice and cozy home, and to the rabbits that you eagerly wanted to pet and nobody would tell you of a hell damn thing about it.
It deeply regretted my decisions to kill you. But it is the only way. Sitting there, locked up, starring at death, and looking at the abyssal of the end.... with no where to go... and nobody to turn to.

Or worse. There being beaten up by Curley, with massive blood spill and agony. There. as I stand there helplessly, trembling for a more merciful endfor you.
It was the only way.
But we been together for so long. Through thick and thin, though sorrow and happiness, though the good and the bad, " I had you and you had me "... And I don't want to forget that. So in honour of our friendship, I did it! I got the place! the place of our dreams! IT was all because of you; you made me believe...
This might be delusional, Lennie, but I going to leave this to your, this diary of mine is yours. Filled with happy stories... and a journey to never forget!
So thank you and may I meet you soon in the afterlife

I did it. I killed Lennie in cold blood. He just sat there peacefully trusting me and I shot him. Right now I'm filled with grief, it feels like a constant pain that never disappears and gets worse just by the thought of that moment. I feel as fragile as a new born baby as all these emotions run through my mind. The presence of regret overshadows me. I have tried to break out of this feeling of regret, but it wouldn't allow me to leave. It held me tighter each time i tried to break free.

At that very moment before I shot him I could feel the cold hard metal of the gun that I held in my hand as i switched off the safety. I could hear the sound of the leaves rustling as I told Lennie about the little house as if my hearing was heightened. The smell of the river in front of us lingered around my nose and I could even taste my own fear as I could see the hesitation in my hand as I raised the Luger to the back of his head.

I had to put the big fella out of his own misery, because if I hadn't, who knows what god forsaken things the others would have done to him. As I pulled that god damned trigger, I could feel the regret, grief, guilt, loneliness all shiver down my spine. Lennie was more than just a friend, he was like a brother I never had. He was the closest thing i had to a family.

I did it, I killed Lennie, my one and only friend. I killed Lennie because Lennie will not survive as he did many bad things that made everyone want to kill him, I killed himself because I do not want him to suffer anymore.
I thought being lonely was the worst, but now i realised that losing my only friend is the worst, it was as sad as fate.
I remember that I told Lennie how much I hate him and wishing that I was alone because I could get a job without any trouble and when i get my salary at the end of the month I could go to as many whorehouses as I wanted. You know, I could eat chocolate cake at 2 AM without anyone judging me. My dream has come true, but I couldn't do anything but wish Lennie was still here.
When I was touching the gun, I could feel the cold hard metal when I was going to kill Lennie. I could hear the men shouting and Lennie talking about how me and Lennie will have a farm for ourselves and how he will tend the rabbits. After I killed Lennie all I could see is Lennie's dead body and I could smell Lennie's blood.
I can't believe I killed him,I can't believe I killed him,I can't believe I killed him! I could have escaped them just like how we escaped weed, I thought killing Lennie was a good choice but everything is better if we ran away. Now without him my life is pointless and I don't know what is the purpose of life without having a friend.

I did it. I had to. I couldn't see him suffer of what Curley's guys would've done if he was still here. It was so cold, I almost thought time froze when I held the gun to the back of his head . The scent of wood and fog filled my head as I heard the ruffling of dried leaves falling as I pulled the trigger .He laid there dead, just like our dream.
I could feel my heart break piece by piece as I collected myself. Shooting him felt like i killed life everywhere, it felt so damn quiet after the chaotic sound of the gunshot. It all fell into place so suddenly ,then all at once. I never pictured losing him like this. I'd never thought I'd done it, but at least he died at his happiest. He stuck with me through everything, and losing him was like having my heart ripped out from my chest, agonising. His smile was wickedly heart warming as genuine happiness showed through his crooked teeth. He was always so happy about the rabbits, nothing made him happier than the thought of him having a future where he could be his joyful self .

Everyone in the ranch are acting like he never even existed. No one cared except Slim. He's been so caring to me and I don't think I know how to repay his kindness for always listening and just helping me get through the day. Shortly after his passing, Candy and I still had hope into getting that little place but everything just felt oh so different. Lennie was the only person who shed light onto an almost impossible dream. He was the light at the end of the dark tunnel and now that he's gone, it's faded. Needless to say after the death of Curley's wife, he was not even bothered to even have a funeral for her and shortly he found another. Guess their marriage was superficial after all. Candy and I ended up staying here in the ranch. I lost myself after losing Lennie and I still am lost in this jungle of dead hopes and dreams. You don't realise how alone you are until you're staying up all night thinking about things you should never think of and you can't tell anybody because you have nobody to tell. I know that i'll see him again someday and maybe he'll be happier. I wouldn't know the meaning of friendship if it wasn't for Lennie and i hope he's looking down on me right now and if you are bud, thank you for being more than a brother and i'll see you soon.

Dear diary,

This afternoon Lennie killed Curley's wife, he returned to the brush by the green pool. He was terrified, he took Carlson's frosty lugar with with him. After all the men went out for him, I rushed to the brush to search for him. As I walked along the brush, I saw a big, innocent and friendly bear walking around, watching out for the angry little men. I alerted him by shouting, he ran towards me like he was lost and started apologising. I felt his body shaking, his eyes worried, never seen him in that state. Told him to turn around and look between two trees in front of him, I took the lugar from his back pocket and started talking about the dream for the last time. I explained it slowly, I raised the gun, my hands were shaking. Finger was on the trigger and BANG!. He flopped like a fish into the ground.

All the men hurried towards me like a pack of wolves to see Lennie laying down on the ground, the gun was still in my hands. I felt lost like everyone else especially Candy as hid dog got shot with the same gun. Everything went silent, I couldn't hear anyone or anything. I was alone. I could smell bags of crop from Lennie's big paws. Feelings left my body now I feel empty without Lennie with me, its like having a half a heart with the other lost somewhere. If Aunt Clara saw what Lennie have been doing, she would also agree with me. The ranch felt empty, nothing was happening. I have no one to talk to anymore, shout at, give instructions. Nothing. Everybody was living their boring repeating lives again. No one to share my ideas with. At least now people in the ranch are safe and able to work in peace without worrying a bear walking around. I need to stop him from killing animals and people, he needed to be stopped. Maybe something even worse could have happened. Another person getting killed, I can't let that happen. All I need to know now is I've done the right thing and people are safe

I did it.I killed him. I use to think how hopeless Lennie was and why i would ever help him out of trouble. I remembered sitting on a log shouting at him to why he is as dumb as a box of rocks and now I realise how much he actually meant to me and how much i needed him. He was the only partner I had this whole journey together and now his gone because of me...

I reminded myself one of our greatest times together, which was when we sat on a log together and stared at the bright glimming yellow flame of fire and he told me "... I gt you to look after me, and you got me to look after you...", I feel that i've failed you for not looking after you enough. All those dreams and memories of us together thinking of how both of us could get our own land and animals and also how everyone would listen to us. Now there is no one else to cherish the dreams of ours together anymore.. Who will tend the rabbits and feed them alfalfa other than you because i know yu'll do it with all your heart spreading kindness towards the animals.

I just can't believe that his dead now. The shot of my gun scared the forest scaring the crows and rushed down flying as fast as lightning through the roaring skies above. As Lennie falls I see him laying down on the grounf without quivering making me think that his finally gone, however he is in a peaceful place now where he doesnt feel pressured or stressed by others. I was speechless to what i've had done to him, The forest was just as quiet as a mouse, as the scene of me killing Lennie repeats, again and again, and again, and again. The feeling in me felt as restless as a willow in a windstorm. Remembering at how i stared at my hand thinking to how i could had save him but it felt hopeless, like there was nothing else to do.

In the end, out of nowhere the men from the ranch cme rushing down the hill like and army of soldiers came to war looking for Lennie but as they are down everything pauses as everyone was shooked to why i killed him instead. Then i felt that killing Lennie was a blessing to him as he is now free from all the darkness that everyone bring towards him to his heart that was as pure as snow. The last thing i would had want him to be was a peaceful place where he can be around.

Now the only thing i could possibly think of is that how he always wanted a land and animals of his own, i promise you Lennie with my life that i would get a land for us, despite you will not be there it will not be as fun as a barrels of monkey.

I did it.I really did it.I killed my best friend. The moment I held on to that cold, heavy Luger and slid my finger slowly to the trigger, it felt like the world around me has fallen into apocalypse.I could hear Curley and his gang rushing over and getting closer and closer every second that has passed. All I could ever see in this moment was a vision of me pulling the trigger and killing Lennie brutally. As I was preparing to pull the trigger, I could smell the tears falling from my eyes.I felt to miserable but it was worst for Lennie.Lennie was like a brother to me, sometimes he may be dumb but he was always kind.He had a heart of gold and a mind of a child. He was unique. I knew before I could pull the trigger, I needed him to be the happiest so we talked about or American Dream. The moment he talked about tending the rabbits, a enormous 'Bang!' responded.I did it.I shot him. Before I knew it the world around me went silent as time has stopped.I felt so miserable.

After awhile Curley and his gang came.I was there sitting on the round rock as if I was a ghost, next to Lennie's dead body.I asked myself " did I do the right thing? " but every time I ask myself that I see myself killing Lennie over and over again. My hearts aches whenever I see that.Slim understands that I had to do it.He knew I had to.He understands the pain that I am going through.Meanwhile Carlson sees this as an entertainment be he didn't understand Lennie's and I friendship.

Every night I see him.I feel him.It hurts me so much that he is gone. After a few days has past I knew that I had to do it for his own good.If I didn't put him out of his misery, Curley would have punished him like he was in hell.I feel guilty but I know I shouldn't.However I believe that Lennie knew everything that I have done is for him.Near or far, wherever his is now, I believe that he will be happy and is able to live in peace for now on.

Dear Diary,
Well, all I'd say is "I did it". I killed Lennie. My only best friend is gone for good. I had to wait for the right moment to do this as Curley's mob's drawing close. All those men, shoutin'... wanting him dead... all them dogs furiously barking... I could hear the stomps of them horses...

I'm sorry but I had no choice. I ain't doin this but I did. Usin' the gun of Carlson that Lennie stole, I had to distract him by retellin' our motives for our dream land again as if I haven't told him before. I realised that I was having deja vu doing so, except that I told him extra carefully. Hearin' the mob comin', comin', and comin' closer, all the crashin' in them bushes, I can sense it! I remember that when I told him "Gonna do it soon", I was also prepared to lock my aim for Lennie's head.

When I shot him, them flock of birds immediately got startled by the crash. Then I tremble blankly, staring at my fallen best friend. Lookin' 't him, my memories with him flash back and fourth, recalling our times in the ranches that we visited. Now alone. Isolated like the rest. It ain't as great as what the other men think. Just as Slim told me earlier: "I hadda". At least he understands friendship unlike Carlson. Meanwhile the others, including Curley and Carlson celebrated with cheers. Eventually, the ranch was as plain as some paper cov'rd with dustballs.

I thought that I'd rather be alone than workin' with Lennie. But lookin' back, I realised loosin' a friend like Lennie is difficult for me. I sure had him for a while now... I mean, he's been always there for my support. We even got our plans for our dreamland along with Candy. None of those woulda happened if Lennie didn't kill...

All I can think of as I keep travellin' though the wind, was Lennie.

Now without him my life is pointless and I don't know what is the purpose of life without having a friend
