It's something that matters because of the fact that if you don't have knowledge of your past you won't learn and allow it to affect your future. If you don't know of your past how can you learn from your mistakes? You can't. For instance, the great depression. As a part of this generation we haven't ever really experienced what is to be poor. If we choose ignorance and don't figure out the things we did before were wrong and we don't learn from them then we might fail completely if our economy ever goes back down.

Also, families had to sell their house and move in with others to combine money, or you could go homeless. The past gives us an insight to what we have to insure in the future. History tends to repeat itself and this has been proven throughout history. Since we know whats happened, we should be able to prevent these past events from happening again. but time after time again we see history repeating itself and we just put it off. we need to be able to retain this information. We should be able to put that knowledge to work. Now we are doing well but with new administration we are slowly moving back and back. Americans as a whole need to remember the past and stop it from happening again. Knowledge is everything and without knowledge we have nothing.
