MK Ultra was an experiment run by the CIA, it involved the use of psychoactive drugs and psychological torture using psychoactive drugs, such as LSD, Electroshock, hypnosis, sexual and verbal abuse, and some forms of torture to try and weaken people into confessing.

This was most likely important to the CIA because they are an Intel gatherer and this would give them more Intel on things.

It affected some U.S citizens because MK Ultra was tested on people without their consent during the operation duration of MK Ultra.

COINTELPRO

CoIntelPro was an operation covertly and illegally run by the FBI to surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting American political organizations that the FBI perceived as subversive. Groups and individuals that the FBI targeted included; MLK, the Black Panther Party, civil rights activists, brown berets, and anti-vietnam war organizers.

This was important because they did not want these groups or individuals to make things get out of hand.

Some U.S citizens, if they were a part of an individual of interest, or were a part of a group of interest, were affected by this by being publicly discredited and having their interpersonal relationships destroyed.

CIA overthrow of foreign govts.

These events have happened many times before, an example of one is Nicaragua. Juan Jose Estrada led a revolt against Jose Santos Zalaya, the U.S backed up Estrada, they eventually made Zelaya resign, and a new leader; Jose Madriz was leading Nicaragua, the U.S refused to recognize Madriz, and eventually he was forced to resign too, finally, Estrada became the leader of Nicaragua, which is what the U.S was aiming for, this was the case for many other overthrows. Overthrowing the current leader and replacing them to the U.S' liking.

This was important to the U.S because they wanted influence over other countries.

Some U.S citizens were affected by being killed or injured in these revolts because they were either a part of the overthrow, or were in the country during it and got caught up in chaos.

Iran Contra Affairs

This U.S was selling weapons to Iran through a loophole in the U.S' own law, they tried to justify the action by saying that the weapons were being used to free hostages.

This was important because this shows that the U.S still wanted to export goodsm even if it meant finding a loophole through their own laws.

This probably affected U.S citizens in the homefrant, most likely angering because of what the U.S did.

1990s drug trafficking involvement.

The CIA was accused of being involved in the Nicaraguan contras' drug trafficking operations an internal report issued by the CIA would admit that the agency was at least aware of Contra involvement in drug trafficking, and in some cases dissuaded the DEA and other agencies from investigating the Contra supply networks involved.

This is important because it shows some of the sketchy things the CIA was up to.

This affected U.S citizens because it started the crack cocaine drug problem in the United States.

Operation Cyclone

Operation Cyclone was an operation in which the CIA funded and armed the Mujahideen, the Mujahideen was the main opposing belligerent in the Soviet-Afghan war. They also supplied other militant groups during the conflict. This was the longest and most expensive operation for the CIA, lasting 3 years and costing 630 million dollars a year. Their targets were the government of Afghanistand and Soviet invasion forces.

This was important because it is the most expensive and longest operation from the CIA.

This might have effected U.S citizens because of the spending that the CIA did.

Operation Paperclip

Operation paperclip was an operation where 1600 scientists and technicians were taken from Nazi Germany by the United States for employment after the end of world war 2 in Europe.

This is important because they took lots of people with a profession from another country to theirs.

This affected U.S citizens because the scientists and technicians made many advancements which are seen till this day.
