The American Cancer Society suggests that preventative screenings should begin by age 45. If a family history exists, screenings may begin earlier. I would suggest that Dylan talk with his healthcare provider to figure out when he should begin screenings. The American Cancer Society also suggests avoiding tobacco, exercising regularly, eating healthy, avoiding alcohol and staying at a healthy weight. This information could be useful to Dylan to help lower his risk of developing cancer.

Later in the interview, it felt as if we were just having a conversation and we were both more comfortable. Although Dylan's culture is similar to my own, there are practices he follows that I do not. It was interesting getting to dive so deeply into someone's culture and beliefs. I feel that this experience has made me more comfortable asking cultural questions. This will be useful in my practice as I encounter patients of different cultural groups.
