The strength I relied on is gone; I feel that I shall soon die, and he, my enemy and persecutor, may still be in being. Think not, Walton, that in the last moments of my existence I feel that burning hatred and ardent desire of revenge I once expressed; but I feel myself justified in desiring the death of my adversary." He feels just in his request for the creature's death by the hands of Walton, but he no longer feels the pressure of doing the deed himself. He realizes that the afterlife is where he belongs with his loved ones.

"I have longed for a friend; I have sought one who would sympathize with and love me. Behold, on these desert seas I have found such a one, but I fear I have gained him only to know his value and lose him. I would reconcile him to life, but he repulses the idea." All of the main characters, Frankenstein, Victor and Walton relate to the first line. Victor is the companion the creature and Walton longed for. The creature wanted a female companion only after his creator and everyone else shunned him. Now with Victor's death, Walton and the creature mourn their loss.
