Today Colin and I interviewed a data analyst ( ICT business analyst) in a large bank and insurance organisation. He looks for the following traits when he hires new people: 1. Attitude Attitude Attitude - it is the most important factor after the knowledge/expertise required. He also looks for skills in problem solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, and good written and spoken communications. He is very aware that university teaches skills and knowledge that is far advanced than that used in business and he has to reduce his expectations as uni produces the 'desired' (top of the range thinking, conceptual and apps skills) and industry has much lower 'actual' level of skills and knowledge in place. Uni graduates need to be able to apply their 'knowledge' to the current situation to be of value. Interesting comments!
