A similar trend can be seen among the younger generation, where the share of children playing hockey has decreased from 17.7 percent of 11 to 15-year-olds in 2013 to 9.8 percent in 2016. In Wales, almost 27 percent of male and 22.2 percent of female primary school students participated in some form of hockey in 2018. When taking a look at secondary school students in the same year, male participation dropped to under 15 percent, while female participation increased to 27.3 percent.
