         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Exposition:</strong> A Man named Framton Nuttel goes to Mrs. Sappleton's home seeking mental help.<br><strong>Rising:</strong> Vera tells Mr. Nuttel that her aunt Mrs. Sappleton has been plagued by the death of her husband, her brothers, and their dog, and that they keep the window open in hopes of their return.<br><strong>Climax: </strong>Mr. Nuttel sees the "dead men" through the window, and is so severely spooked he flees the house.<br><strong>Falling Action: It t</strong>urns out that the men are not actually dead and that Vera made all of that up. In all actuality Mrs. Sappleton moves on from her lovers very quickly.<br><strong>Denouement: </strong>Mrs. Sappleton thinks it was odd that he came talking about his ailments and then fled so suddenly.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Indirect: I infer that Mr. Nuttel is an easily excitable man, because instead of coming to a logical conclusion that those were actual living humans, he jumped to the conclusion that what he was seeing were ghosts.<br>"In a chill shock of nameless fear Framton swung round in his seat and looked in the same direction...&nbsp; Framton grabbed wildly at his stick and hat; the hall door, the gravel drive, and the front gate were dimly noted stages in his headlong retreat" (Saki 3)<br><br>Direct: "you will bury yourself down there and not speak to a living soul, and your nerves will be worse than ever from moping" (1) In this quote from his sister, it can be said that Mr. Nuttel is a nervous guy that finds his current life too much.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Personification: </strong>At the end of the story Vera talks about dogs saying they were smiling down at Mr. Nuttel.&nbsp;<br>"once hunted into a cemetery...&nbsp; by a pack of pariah dogs,... with the creatures snarling and grinning and foaming just above him (Saki 4)<br>Imagery: The words Saki uses gives the story life. words like "dazed horror" and "deepening twilight" help create certain tones.</div>]]></description>

They never came back" (Saki 2).</div>]]></description>
