Asian long-horned beetles are the nonnative species. They came from China and are native to China, Japan, and Korea. It is believed they have came to North America on shipping crates and other wood packaging materials. It came to the ecosystem by wood shipping crates from Asia in 1998.

Chicago's forest is a popular area for wildlife. It provides food and shelter for birds, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, and many insects. The trees provide shade for residents and the cooling costs in the summer when the trees block sun from houses and businesses. The trees absorb pollutants from car, which help make the air healthier to breath. It begins with the trees, which the animals feed off of and predators are birds, spiders, lizards and other small mammals.

Predictions

The beetles ruin the pathways of the tree in which carrying water from the tree roots up the tree and taking nutrients from the canopy down., which is the problem. My prediction is that the more beetles lay their eggs in the trees the less trees there will be. there will be a decrease in trees since the trees will have to be cut down. Benefits to cutting down trees is that there will be more land to build homes, businesses, etc. The problems would be less trees which means the air will be less healthier to breath. Also like it said on the hand out with less tress the higher the cooling costs will be since less trees to block the sun. Also with less trees other animals have less of place to live in because the beetles are destroying there home, so I also predict a decrease in animals.
