If I was a Native American, I wouldn’t necessarily consider someone calling me Pocahontas. Pocahantas is considered to be an influential figure on the Native American front. This is similar to others calling me Mahatma Gandhi. I would actually regard this in the highest sense. I understand the difference between a joke and what’s not. My personality enables me to take little offense to anything. I take a lighthearted approach to pretty much everything and in a sense the Generation Z we see today is overly sensitized. He wasn’t calling the Native American Pocahantas, he was merely mocking Warren for lying about her identity.

I would, however, the way it was used was clearly not aimed to do anything near racial or go against actual Native Americans, and wasn't meant to be negative; it was meant to say Warren is playing dress-up as some Native tribal figure. It was more political than otherwise racial, yet still not appropriate for him to say.

However, if it were to have been directed at the Native Americans and not at a political rival, it would be improper. I wouldn't say it's immediately offensive, but it's still rather odd.

IF I was native american the term Pocahontas would be deeply offensive if I was called that. However the way Trump used is to make fun of the claim that Warren claims she is Native American which is debated and at best only a small percentage. (1/32)Although he said it randomly he does raise a issue with Elizabeth Warren's possibly false claims . So the way Trump said it was not used in an offensive manner.
